The following is said to have been for warded to President Cleveland on the 23d of last month, by a soldier who lost his legr in bat tie: By your request, Sir Grovor, I hereby resign, All effects turning over Save this wooden leg of mine; And if reform demands it, It, too, I will turn in; I think that I can stand it Four years upon one pin. "An offensive partisan" Ton bet that I am one, For I went with the boys when the war first begun. And followed the starry banner when Grant and Sherman led, Till Jeffey through the Solid South in petticoats had fled, As to how and when I voted, to you it matters not, But I'll say, by way of parting, I voted as I fahot. Good for a Democrat. - Norton Courier. It. B. Wahlquist, formerly of this place, but now of the McCook (Nebraska) Dem ocrat, has the following complimentary notice of our candidate for district judge: "The Democrats of the 17th judicial district of Kansas can never, in our opin ion, win so long as the Kepublicans con tinue to push forward such stiong, clean and intelligent men as is the nomination of Hon, Louis K. Pratt for judge. It has boon our fortune to know this gentleman, to see him rise from poverty and obscurity to means and position. His election is certain: First, because there is no man, in any place or party, who will not say that hois in every respect qualified; second, because, personally, Mr. Pratt is a man of spotless name and reputation, a lawyer who reaches high up toward the very head of the Kansas bar, and has a stiong personal friendship with the legal profes sion and the courts of the state. He is a Republican of Bepublicans, always true and able, and the people of western Kan sas are bound, without regard to party, to lecognize his ability and strength. e are glad Mr. Pratt was nominated; we know he will be elected and make a judge of whom the people can be proud."
