If L if' .Western Kansas World. Established March 1, 1879. Official Paper of the City of Wa-Kccney. Saturday, May 15. 1899. I II V Not So In Kansas. - The average Texas citizen' imagines that he lives at home, but he doesn't. He gets up in the morning and puts - on a pair of socks made in New York, shoes made in Jioston, pants made in Ohio, and then slips ;t pair of Connec ticut suspenders over his shoulders. He dips some water from a Missouri bucket with aChicagodipperand puts it into an Illinois pan and washes his Texas face, usiug a cake of St. Louis soap in the operation. He dries his face on a Rhode Island towel, roaches bis hair with a Vermont comb. He then drinks Cuban coffee from an In diana cup and saucer, sweetened with Louisiana sugar and stirred with a "ew York spoon. His knife, fork and IIate were made in the north and his table cloth ditto. He eats Chicago hatn and Colorado potatoes fried in Kansas lard, sops his Minnesota bis cuits seasoned with IJoston soda and Michigan salt, cooked in Omaha pans. into New Orleans molasses. He wipes his whiskers on a Pennsylvania nap kin, shoves back his Wisconsin chair and gets up from the table made in ' Ohio. His meat was cooked on a St. Louis stove with wood chopped with .a Massachusetts ax and hauled in an Indiana wagon. The citizen then puts a Jioston bri die on an Iowa mule, gets out hi: ' 1.. 1 , -. weurjiia piow aim worKS ail uav in a nem incumbered in all probability with a New i ork mortgage. Here turns at night and satisfies his appe tite with another imported meal, tills his Indiana lamp with Pennsylvania oil and lights it with a New York match. He then fills his Illinois pipe with North Carolina tobacco which lie paid for with California gold. When bed time comes he takes down his family Hible, which was printed in Ciuciunati, reads a chap ter, says a prayer composed in Jerusa lem, then retires to his bed, slips un der his imported covers and is kept awake by his dog. which is the only home product he has about the place. Panola Watchman. A Thousand Tongues Could not express the rapture of An nie K. Springer, of 1123 Howard street, Philadelphia, Pa., when she found that Ir. King's New Discovery for Consumption had completely cured her of a hacking cough that for manv 3-ears had made her life a burden. All other remedies and doctors could give her no help, but she says of this Royal Cure "It soon removed the pain' in my chest and I can now sleep soundly, something I can scarcely remember doine before. I eel like sounding its praises throughout the Universe." So will everyone who tries Dr. King's New Discovery for any trouble of the Throat, Chest or Lungs. Price 50c and 91.00. I had wildly, madly fan-1 cied that no man my leg could pull, but an agent came and worked me and my eyes are full of wool. I had dared the green goods dealer, on his far off eastern .liar ; I have met the gold brick expert, give him the Klon dike stare; I have met the bunco steererwith the old time sickening thud, but an agent came and worked me and my name is Mr. Mud. I have dodged the oily bloomers, with their Colonel Seller's dream ; I have scorn ed the touring fakir, with his smooth transparent scheme ; I have met the begging pastor and dismissed him with a smile ; but an agent came and worked me ; came and touched me for my pile. It is hard to live in triumph, over four thousand tricks, hard to dodge the snares and pitfalls of our modern policies ; naru to spend your life time beating those who pilfer, cheat and beg, and then have an agent pull your adamantine leg.
