In fact, we can see no adequate reason why any intelligent citizen of Kansas should want to do otherwise. TFe are also supporting Hon. I. D. Young for congress. His nomination was sufficient evidence that he is the choice of his party and we believe that he will be the choice of the voters of the Sixth District at large. We are supporting E. A. .. Rea for judge of the 23rd judicial district. We have known Ed. for twenty years and know that he has had the train ing and experience, and has the ability and disposition, both natural and acquired, which will enable him to be a capable and impartial judge. However, it is to the Republican county ticket, more especially, that we wish to direct the attention of our readers at this time. Most of our nominees have been residents of the county for several years, and are well known to all old timers, but to those unacquainted with them we wish to say that more than half of them have held various positions of public trust in the county and have been found worthy and competent, and that is the reason their names are now on the ticket. To those who be lieve that the geographical distribu tion of the candidates on a ticket is a matter of importance we would say that five of the seven townships of the county are represented by one or more candidates on the Republican ticket, six of the number being resi dents of the four corner townships. REPRESENTATIVE 99TH DISTRICT. Herman Long is our candidate for the legislature from this county. He lias been a resident of Wa-Keeney for the last ten years where he has fol lowed the profession of law, having at least his share of the most im portant practice and being generally successful in his cases. His acquaint ance with the country, his education, training and experience and particu larly his knowledge of English law, language and legal procedure make mm especially wen quannea as a legislator. Sir. Long is a property owner and taxpayer and there is every possible why lie should be elect ed. You ought to vote for Herman Long regardless of political bias. COUNTY CLERK. For county clerk the Republicans nominated C. C. Hickman, of Collver. Charlie, as he is generally known, is practically a Trego county product, iiavuig iiveu nearly an nis lire In nn i - i - . . - uier ujwiismp, ana is me son ol a pioneer citizen, the late J. H. Hick man. For the last several years he has been, and is now, engaged in merchandising and has had other ex tensive practice and experience which, with liberal schooling, has fitted him especially well for a clerical position, such as the office of county clerk, and to which we predict he will be elect ed. Vote for Charlie. COUNTY TREASURER. (Short Term) G- W. Marshall was appointed county treasurer about fifteen months ago at the death of his brother, G. G. Marshall, and has been nominated as a candidate to fill out the unexpired term oi nis Dromer. tie nas no op posing candidate for this position but should receive the hearty support of all voters and to which his faithful and accommodating service entitles all M him. The Marshall boys timers in Trego county. COUNTY TREASURER. (Long Term) C. M. Bell, who has been a resident, farmer and stockraiser of Franklin township for more than thirty years, is our candidate for county treasurer for the term beginning October, 1911. This is the only office to which Mr. Bell has ever really aspired and for which he is particularly well quali fied, and we doubt that there has ever been an occupant of that office who excelled him in penmanship, bookkeeping and general clerical ability. His integrity and quiet straightforwardness have won for him the confidence and respect of who know him. Vote for ChaS. Bell. FOR REGISTER OF DEEDS. Miss Xannie Glenn is the second Collyer township candidate. Miss Glenn for several years has been a successful teacher and is prepared to perform the duties of the office of register of deeds and to which she was nominated without opposition in the party of her choice at the recent primary election. She ought, there fore, to receive, and we believe she will receive, the hearty support of her party and the voters generally. Miss Glenn is a property owner and taxpayer. Vote for her. FOR COUNTY ATTORNEY. I. T. Purcell needs no introduction to the people of Western Kansas. He came to Trego county about twenty- six years ago but later lived in Gove county several years where he was elected as a member of the legisla ture. He returned to Trego about twelve or fourteen years ago, was register of the U. S.' Land Office at Wa-Keeney for a term of four years and later served the county four years as county attorney, and this is the office to which the people of Trego county will again elect him. without opposition in or out "of his party. Mr. Purcell has large interests in real estate, is one of our heaviest taxpayers, and is otherwise interest ed in the prosperity and financial welfare of the county. Perhaps no other assurance is needed that his administration of his office will be careful and conservative while prose cuting and punishing offenses against the law with adequate vigor and despatch. PROBATE JUDGE. in all new or young communities the office of Probate Judge receives but little consideration, being reck oned of third or fourth rate import ance, although, in fact, the work and records of the office are of most vital interest to those who have business there. Property rights, liberty of person, and even the legitamacy of children are affected by the acts and the records of the Probate Court. It is a court to which the unfortunate classes resort for . protection and to preserve their personal and property rignts: widows and orphans; the in sane and incompetent; wayward, de pendent and neglected children. All mese tnings touch the life of the people at most vital points and snouia receive the most careful and considerate attention from him to whom their adjudication is entrusted. ana as a community grows older the number of cases increase; wills are probated, estates settled, debts paid and property distributed. It is esti mated that practically all the propertv of any given community, both perso nal and real, Is passed upon by the Probate Court once in every twenty- live to thirty years. Because these things are not fully appreciated the salary accorded the office in new and sparsely settled counties is small. In Trego county the pay of the office at this time is the same it was ten years ago, although the salaries of several other offices in the county have been raised once or twice and some of them three times in that period. Notwithstanding this, the present Incumbent of the office of Probate Judge, A. S. Peacock, has given his time unreservedly to the work of the office, has taken the trouble to study his work and familiarize himself with his duties, and has endeavored to bring the" records of the office into better shape than they have ever been before. He is the Republican candidate for this office to which he was unanimously nominated and has no opposing uemocraiic canaiaate. If industry and strict adherence to law and duty are considered, A. S. Peacock should receive the support of everv voter in the county. He has been a resident of the county twenty five years, has held other positions of importance and has always made good. Vote for him. FOR CORONER. No nominations were made for this office but we are supporting the present incumbent, Dr. W. Y. Her rick, and expect to write his name in the proper place on our ballot and make a cross to the right of it when we come to vote and we invite all other voters to do the same. Dr. Herrick is well prepared for the duties of the office; he is worthy and well qualified and has been suitably proficient in the past. Vote for him FOR SHERIFF. Elihu W. Allman, of Riverside township, is another of the pioneer sons who has been honored by nomi nation for an office of importance by the party of progress, the party of hope and inspiration lor all young voters. The Allmans were pioneers of the county thirty years ago, have always been regarded as among our most substantial farmers and intelli gent citizens. It is eminently proper that the claims of the young men. sons of such pioneers, should be rec ognized. E. W. Allman is qualified and worthy of the support of all voters for the office of sheriff and it should be the especial care and pride of all the younger voters to elect him to the office to which he aspires. Vote for Elihu. AND FINALLY. We corially invit ail voters to ex amine careilly the life, work, merit and qualifications of all the candi dates we have presented, urging all voters to go to the polls and work as their honest conviction dictate for the best interest of the county. If this is done we have no fear of the re sult and no one will have cause to re gret the choice of the people. Go to the polls. Every voter should take time to perform his public duty. Results That Remain Are Appreciated by Wa-Keeney People. Thousands who suffer from back ache and kidney complaint have tried one remedy after another, finding only temporary benefit. This is dis couraging, but there is one special Kiuney medicine that cures perma nently and there is plenty of proof nsrht here in wa-lveeiiey. Here is the testimony of one who used Doan's Kidnev Pills years ago. and now states that the cure was lasting. A. J. Johnson, or wa-Jieeney, hans.. savs: "1 often had to arise at night to pass the kidney secretions and I was also bothered bv a pain in my back. About a year I was afflicted in that way and the medicine I tried seemed to have no effect. Finally I procured a box of Doan's Kidney Pills at Uioson s urug fetore ana their use cured me. I consider this prepara tion the best one to be had for kidney complaint." (Statement given April 13, 1907.) .THE CURE LASTED. , On July 7, 1910, Mr. Johnson said: I have had no need of Doan's Kid ney Pills during the past three years. You are welcome to continue the publication of my former endorse ment of this remedy." For sale Dy all dealers. Price oo cents. Foster-Milburn Co.. Buffalo. New York, sole agents for the United States. Remember the name Doan's and take no other. COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT. Mrs. Eva P. Jones is the only nomi nee for this office and will be elected to succeed herself without doubt, not alone because she has no opposing candidate but because one good term deserves another. Mrs. Jones' ex perience and qualifications are well known and further comfment is un necessary but she should receive, and we have no doubt she will re ceive a handsome vote. COUNTY SURVEYOR. There is but one nomination for this office, Hudson Harlan, who has held the office the last few years and who has proven himself to be espe cially proficient in the work of the office for which he was fitted by spe cial study in college, and to which he has added much by field training and experience. Mr. Harlan is particu larly just, careful and accurate the kind of officer who should have charge of the work of this office which be comes more and more important as the old boundary marks become more difficult of location and real estate becomes more and more valuable. He was a homesteader in Willcox town ship twenty-six years ago, has served the public in many ways and has al ways been found worthy of conn dence. Vote for Harlan. CLERK OF DISTRICT COURT. C. E. Ridgway is another of the substantial pioneer sons of the county, For more than thirty years he has been a resident of Ogallah township where he is a property owner and tax payer. He is the present clerk of the district court for Trego county, has been very careful and attentive to the office, and it has been said by those who have had opportunity to to know and are qualified to judge that he is one of the best, if not the very best, district clerk in the whole district consisting of six counties. There is no opposing nomination and he should receive the compliment of a unanimous vote. HIGH SCHOOL TRUSTEE. This is an important but non partisan npsition and should alway be regarded. We are supporting Frank Eaton in the eastern district, R, C. Wilson in the central, and Chas. W. Kirby in the western, re gardless of their political affiliations, and should be re-elected. There are no oppsosing candidate. COUNTY COMMISSIONER, 1ST DISTRICT. John McNaughton of Ogallah town ship is the fourth pioneer son of the county who has been honored thi: year by nomination on the Republ can ticket. Thirty years residence and being a property owner and tax payer is .an evidence of qualification: to this add his Scotch wit and thrifti ness and we have an ideal candidate for county commissioner. He de serves the support of every voter in the district and we confidently ex pect him to be elected. Vote for Mack. Election Proclamation. State of Kansas. I County ol Trego.
