Some days apo we notice the burning of
' the UuntsvilJe ic the Tennessee river. We take
the following particulars from the Louisville
Journal:
The fire occurred on board of the IIuntville
on saiuruay nignt, wunc sue ijriug i auj
" burg on the Tennessee river. She was bound
for New Orleans and had about four thousand
bales of cotton on board. The fire spread with
Such rapidity that in less that ten minutes the
whole boat and cargo were wrapped in flames
The passengers, officers, and crew, had barely
time to escape in their clothes, losing their bag
gage and everything else.
The Huntsvitle wa built a year and a half
ago at New Albany at a cost of $6 ,000 She
was an A. No. 1 boat, and owned by Captains
Pell and Robinson. She was insured in six of
fices in this city for $30,000 and in the New Al
bany Insuiance Company for $$5,000. The fol
lowing are the offices that hat risks on her in
' this citv to the amcunt of 55 000 each: Fire-
man's. Jefferson, Fails City, Franklin, Aeeney
of Delaware Mutual, and Louisville Insurance
Company. The catgo, it is presumed, was in-
ured in New Orleans.
The fire communicated to the farm warehouse
of Mr.' Campbell, which was burned with several
' hundred barrels of alt.

Breadstuff slightly advanced; western canal

Manchester adrices more favorable. Pro
visions generally unchanged; naval atores
declined; coffee steady, prices unchanged;
augar firm; rice steady, unchanged; money

pol. Public attention centered on Vienna con
ference and hopes and fears about equally
balanced as to probabilities of peace. 'Aus
trian, and Prussian circulars indicate peace,
but the manifesto of Czar Alexander to bis
army is interpreted as very warlike.
Vienna conference heli first meeting on
25th. GortschikofF Russian Embassador
was not present. Allies re-opened fire on
Sebastopol in good effect. Nothing new
from Danube. The Roebuck committee of the
English Parliament still in session, con
tinuing enquiry into the conduct of the war.
Emperor Napoleon' journey to Crimea sup
posed to have been postponed. Ministerial
crisis in Belgium continues.
Spaik. An interesting paper from Gen.
Concha, reporting the Cuban conspiracies,
has been laid before the cortes recommend
ing that concession be made to the Cuban?;
a vote of approval was unanimously passed
by the cortes. A new Bavarian loan has
been promulgated.

Brown, Shipley & Co., report a slight ad
vance in breadstuff's. Wheat advar.ced 2d;
flour and corn la, but buyers were demanding
a reduction; old western canal flour 4li42s;

nominal at 44; white wheat lis 7J to 12s

Richardson, Spune & Co., quote inferior
beef closing dull while holders of good
brands are demanding an advance. Pork in
limited demand 77j80; bacon in better

Congress in Vienna formally met on the
15th. Present one French, two English,
two Austrian and two Turkish Representa
tives. Russian plenipotentiary not present
Telegraph reports aay diicueskn on general
buis of negotiations, terminated satisfactori
ly. Rumors current that army of England
will be content ith the demolition of Sebas
topol, bat Nspoleon absolutely insists that
the convention at Vienna, on Friday night
and conferrence yesterday, plenipotentiaries
exchanged power and proceeding, entered
upon basis in interpretations given them by
Allies, and having been set forth; Represen
tatives of Russia accepted them verbally, one
of plenipotentiaries hereupon deputed drew
up minute protocol which is to be signed to
morrow, Saturday, first thing when Embaasa
dors meet; this document will constitute the
baais of negotiations for peace.
Paris. Friday night mission of Gen.
Waddcll completely failed. Prussia refuses to
accede to treaty with the Allies. She will
not therefore be permitted to participate in
conferences at Sebastopol. Firing upon the
town resumed. Letters of March lat ex
plain discrepancy between French and Ru
asian accounts of otorming redoubt on the
night of 23d. French did storm two Russian
redoubts; fioding them not tenantable blew
them up and retired with loss of 100 killed
and 300 wounded.
March 1. Harbor Sebastopol. Official
French dispatch giving account of detaila of
Czar just received. Rocketa were thrown
into Kamieach which set the town on fire.
Two Russian officers deserted to the Eng
lih. Siege works progressing with greatest
activity. .
Russia issued circular to diplomatic cem
alar agents, and there are reasons to believe
negotiationa now in progress will terminate
in peace. Prussia by decree prohibits ex

Gold increasing. Discount at present
made 4$ first class short bills.
Melbourne datea of Jan. 8 and again quiet.
Several failures had occurred.
Frabce. Emperor's visit to Crimea, con
tinues doubtful. Warlike preparations active.
Every order given to prepare transport from
Toulon for 50,000 men, 8,000 h rses. Gener
al Weddel Prussian envoy, returned to Paris.
Mentioned officially he contradicts calumny
against Genersl Forrey that he was io cor
respondence with the Enemy. Forrey how
ever is recalled.
Bilgium. Ministerial Crisis continues.
Phoenix charged with formation of cab
inet.
Madrid correspondence gives details of re
cent conspiracy at Cuba says Governor re
ceived confidential communications from Con
cha. The condition of Cuba inspires in him
considerable uneasineas; recommends con-
cessionbe made to colony and that deputy be
sent to Spanish Cortex. Begs Goverment not
to emancipate slaves; says it would be a fatal
measure and cause them to seek admission
into the United States. If the Cubans be
not pacified by concession 20,000 troops could
not retain Cuba to Spain. ,
March 8. Government in Cortex tran
quility waa restored. Cuban Government
would do utmost to prevent further difficulty.

Baltimore, March 39.
Southern mail arrived per Isabella from
Charleston brings Havana dates to Sunday.
Much excitement. Pinto execution on the
morning of the 22 J inst. To such a pilch
has the feeling of the subjects reached that
Captain Snell had not been seen in public
since the event. The body Instead of being
expoaed the usual time, 12 hours, was removed
in three. Indignation evinced by populace
rendering meaaures of hostility necessary.
This state of affairs was brought about by
he vindictive conduct of the Capt. General.
Some informality having taken place, the
minister was requested to countersign death
warrant on the ground that the evidence In
conflicting points had emanated .from one
who had served two apprenticeships in the
chain gang. Capt. General thereupon con
vened council of four and after deliberation
two declared themaelves in favor of death
and two in favor of acquittal. The casting
vote was left with the Capt General who
condemned him, his former secretary and
friend, to the garrotte, hence the indignation.
Trial of Estramp and Felix was to hive tak
en place early this week. Counsel Col. W.
Rotzerson had acted most energetically
against the trial and insisted on the libera
tion. The result of application not kcown
when Isabella sailed.
French vessel Aggrippa at Havana had re
ceived a rrew of A merican. Brig Catharine
Mary, bound from New York to Indies, aban
doned at sea in sinking condition at Key Wes
Barque Magnolia arrived on 22din charge
of wreckers having been ashore on Loo Kee
the previous day. It is confidently believed
at Key Weat that cargo and munitions of war
are designed for uae of filibusters said to be
assembling near to Mobile. The Magnolia
had no clearance and waa fined by collectors
for neglect.
