their running arrangements in the Journal,

boat Job Work done at short notice, in good
style, and at reasonable rates. Extra copies

RIVER ITEMS.
The weather, yesterday, moderated
considerably, and at night there were strong
indications of rain. No business was trans
acted on the landing beyond the unloading
and piling up of freight. The Stt-phen lh
calar dropped down to the wharf, but put
no freight on board. Some of the shippers
express doubts as to the safety of shipping
on any boat.
Capt. ZaK. TayI.or has our thanks
for a copy of the Louisville Courier,, of the
4th inst., containing the Report of ihe Local
Inspectors, Swagar and Dawson, in the col
lision ease of the Charity Jiowcn and Silver
Star. .The Report we shall publish Mon
day. . TheVcsiftner, from Memphis arrived
yesterday. She was 1G hours out between
Heuderson and this port. She laid up here
ice-bound. (
The 1). B. Campbell and Lue Eaves
arrived from Green River at the mouth of
which stream they have been iee-buund.
The IK B. Camphell, we understand,
will leave for Bowling Green to-d:iy. We
presume the Lue Etivex will al3o put out.
Ihe Autocrat, having her chimneys
ip, begins to look considerably like a steam
boat. ' Politics in. Mississippi. The Yicksburg
Whig comes to ns with a lengthy address of
the Opposition State Central Committee of
Mississippi to the people of that State. It
makes four closely-printed columns in the
Whig, and is signed by Hon. Wm. L. Shark
ey, Chairman, and by Messrs. I. M. I'atridge
of the Yicksburg Whia, G. M. Hillver, of
the Natchez Courier, Hon. J. L. Alcorn,
Hon. II. W. Walter, Col. George L. Potter,
H.U. Sonthworth, Wm. A. Shaw, C. Cru
soe, and Joseph Regan, Esq3. The addre?3
is written with great ability, and is perva
ded by a sound, firm, and conciliatory na
tional spirit. It deprecates the further agi
tation of the slavery question, asks the North
ern sectionalism to desist from further agi
. tation, and patriotic, national men of all par
ties to meet the Opposition of Mississippi
upon a common platform of mutual good
will and harmony for the benefit of the
whole country. The Address winds tip by
calling a State Convention to convene at
Jack3on on the 4th Monday, in March, to
consult upon what is best to be done, with
the suggestion' that it will probably be the
duty of said Convention, to appoint delega
tes to a National Convention with a view to
the next Presidency. The Address will
doubtless attract much attention. N. O.
