The dullness in the stock market to-day was second only to that of Tuesday, while the in igcifieance of the transactions was, if any thin;, even greater than cn that day. There was a firm tone and some show of animation daring the first hour, but the succeeding trans actions were absolutely barren of movement of importance after a partial reaction. Corn was sec ond only to wheat in the advance to-day, one reason for higher prices being an out-inspeetion of 311,000 bu. The out-inspection for five days reached 1, G00 000 bu. July waa kept within ite of August There was liberal selling by a few brokers, with general buying on the slow advance. The "short" interest helped the ad vance. July sold at 48(c . and 4S2c to close. August 49c to open, and 49o to dose, agaiost 48io at the close on Tuesday. September sold up to COic and October up to 490, while yesr corn dosed at 43c. The local market was moderately active to day, still the volume of trade is up to the usual early July average. .Through this month rather quiet times are looked for, but with the promis ing oats, hay and corn crops it is believed a big fall trade may be safely expected. In prices to day there were several changes in values. Sugars move np another peg, while coffees, green grades, drop, fc'ome grades 1 cent, others bat I eent Canned goods, it will be noticed, are marked down, and the supply promises to be considerably in excess of that of 1S37. This remark will apply to berries, peas, beans, of near-home production, and with California eoc's as well. Dry goods men are having a fair trans. Inquiries regarding fall goods are already com ing in, and a large fall trade is in trospect. Tne produce markets are active. Receipts of berries are large, but with a good demand pri ces are well maintained. Apples, potatoes, onions, and eabbaee in better supply, and prices weakening. Eggs, poultry, and choice butter are all in good demand, and readily bring quo tations. Shippers should always send an in voice on each consignment, by mail, immedi "ately after the-goois are shipped. This is a very important matter to both shippers and receivers and should not be overlooked. GRAIN.
