It was a doll, heavy market for wheat all day, influenced by steady selling, offerings eomlog on the market freely and not mush demand. The feeling was some what unsettled and generally weak. The specu lative offerings were fair, with operators on the "short" side feeling a little more confident, though at the same time they were disposed to act caotioosiy for fear of manipulation. The news from the Northwest was a little more bear ish. The opening was easy, bot prices soon rallied, advancing e for May, then became weak, passing the $L15 mark for Mar, de clining to a point jnst 8o below the top price reached 011 Wednesday, and elosed at in Bide figures. There was a steady stream of selliog orders 00 tbe market, credited largely to a local trader, though bo had some following. Corn was ouly moderately active, the trading being mainly local, aad most of tbe bnainess was transacted early io tbe session. The feeling, ou the whole, was rather firmer than on yester day, there being lees disposition on tbe part of local traders to "short" the markst. Opening sales were at yesterdays closing prices; tbe market ruled qalte firm for a time, then ased off some, ruled steady, and elosed iie higher than yssterday. Oats were steady. There was a slight improvemeat io tbe demand for November delivery, with tbo market also a shade stronger. Other features up to May re main exeeediocly quiet, in some eases almoet nominal, bat in May there was a fair trade, with a steady feeling prevaiiingand transactions were at about yesterday's q notation. Trad in e ia mess pork wss limited. Oileriogs were rather light, with some inquiry from toe "short" interest Early ia the day the feeling was firm er and prices were advanced 15'dl7c, bnt set tled back again 10al2o later in the day. and closed quiet. Trading was ehiefly in January and May deliveries. Very little business was transacted in lard, and tbe ebanees in priees were slight. Short rios attracted very little at tention, and trading was limited. Prices ruled .02j3.5s nigber, and the market elosed steady. The leadine futures ranged as follows: Optning UiketL Lcvett. Owing; to Unfavor able Conditions. I X DI A J A pons, Nov, 3. While it would bo an exaggeration to say that tbo trade of the week closing to-day fell con siderably below expectations, it would not bo an exif geration to say that it did not, owing to un favorable weather conditions and Interest in political matters, reach tbe volume that it sbonld have done in any department Dry goods men speak of it as having been the quiet est week with them in the last two months, but so arpareot are the causes that no complaint is made. Ia all linee of dry Roods firm prices rule Grocers bad a fair trade only. No one doubts that all staple arti cles in the grocery line will move more freely before winter fairly sets in, as retail merchants are carrting light stocks and mist increase tbem to mset ordinary trade probabilities. Cof fees, eereclally the milder grades, were firmer to-day. Sugars still rule tame. Teas are steady, with a fair distribution. It will be thirty days or more before canned goods will begin to move with any freedom, and possibly longer, as much fruit was canned in tbe past season by families who usually depend on the grocer for their supply. The demand for syrups aad molassea is only moderate, aad prices are not firm in their tone. The provision market has been rather fiat daring tbe weeir, aad priees on several descriptions of hog prod ucts rnled weak. The flour market has worked Into an unsatisfactory shaoe again, and millers are reducing their production. Tee bide mar ket is more active, but all efforts to adraoce priees have failed, as they now ranre considera bly lower than one year ago. Leather dealers rtport their trade good at unchanged prices. Trade with the hardware men begms to drag a little; however, they have no grounds for com- fdaint, as the summer business has been excel enu Tbe iron market, as well as thst of tin ners' supplies, carries a firm tone, end io botn lines a fair trade is in progress. The seed mar ket has tsken 00 a quiet fesiiog. The produce market presents 00 new feature. Hither price; for cess are indicated next wt k, and butter is searce and advancing in price. Poultry ia barely steely; receipts are very large and the Eastern demand is far from satisfactory. Other markets are movie g alocg much la the same rut as for some days past. GRAIN.
