THE INDIANAPOLIS JOURNAL, SUNDAY, MARCH 22, 1891. ) r i J . . f ERSOSAL ASP SOCIETY. J. II society and jrrsonat notes for the Sunday itrutcflht Journal, to secure publication, must I in lAa hands cf the city editor by Saturday noon. The stationer has bronght oat a little set of four books which are wonderfully use ful, anil with their IZussia leather covers and g Ad lettering aro ornamental, a well. The j- come in a case and are about four Inches long, and not more than three-quarters of an inch thick. One la for memo Tan da, another for a calling list, the third fur shopping lists and the fourth for en gagements. They are not dated like diaries, so they are god for all time. The lines are fine and close on the paper, so a great quantity may be written on each page. Whenever the owner of one of these books lias a call, the name is recorded, and when the call is returned the name is simply scratched out. When the caller comes again the name is rewritten. If an invita tion is received tho engagement is written in the book lor that purpose. Tbreare mall pencils ready sharpened in each book. In the memoranda can be placed jottings, euch as who has been entertained, the go ings and coinings of friends, marriages, death, re morals, plays or concerts attend ed, the date to be written with the event. This is somewhat like keeping a diary, but with tho difference of there being no printed dates in tho book, there are no blank spaces staring at oneto remind her of resolutions not kept The books are also pleasant for reference, as to when a certain call was Made or paid, when a certain article was bought, or any other matter which may have been considered of satiirient importance to record at the time. It is considered very good taste to have this set of books, purse, card-case and prayer look covered with the same kind of leather. The set complete mak-s a tine Easter re membrance, provided the donor can rind out what kind of cover the person to re ceive the gift pre f err, whether Kassia or fcuedo. Ac several of the hnncsomo six-o'clocK dinners given recentlr Cheats have been rude enough to accept invitations and about 4 o'clock of the day on which the din ner was given send regrets. Such an action is unpardonable, except in cases of the ex tremest necessity. When a hostess prepares lor a certain number of guests the persons lionored withinvitations should appreciate them and have someconsideration for their hostess, and if regrets are to follow accept ancea th?y should come early enough for tho hostess to till tho vacant places.
