ago, the above named geutletnen iKsued proposals fcr pub
lishing, in two volumes octavo of some f00 pages each, al
the statutes of the State paused since 151, with annota
tions. The first volume of the work ,s now published; and
the manner of it execution, both mechanically and edito
rially, deserve the thanks of the profession.
The imperfect manner of publishing our statutes under
State authority, has always been a source of great incon
venience to the Indiana Lawyer. Tbe revision of 152, a
eil as the tatutes paseed since that year, tnicht almost
a well have been published without any index. lp tc
thittime. the lawyer ha constantly been under the neccs
sity of turning over, leaf by leaf, the volumes o our
statutes to Und any particular enactment. And every one
knows how annoying and provoking this is, eepecially in
the hurrv of business a in our Courts. Happily for the
profession, the publication under consideration prome a
better state of things in the future. The fird volume o
):rwis. Gavin A 1 lord's work contains an excellent ami
copious index, which to every practicing lawyer in the
tale i. itself worth the money which the volume cots.
The volume under review contain another excellence
11 its pages are supplied with valuable marginal indice,
othat a glance at the marsin is suflicient to apprise th

Another matter of great importance to the lawyer In
this volume i a god collection of the subjrets of all leg
islatioii iiice 1S51. Heretofore, the lawyer in cxanniiln
our legislation ou any given subject had first to find tsbai
wa relevant to it in the Revision of lo2, and then to turn
over the pace of the volumes of subsequent Statutes, to
M-f how far recent legislation may have repealed or m 1 -fied
the provisions contained in that Revision, and een
then be would often feel doubt whether he had found all
the legislation on the subject of hia inquiry. Mes-rs. Ga
vin and llord have relieved us of all this trouble and
doubt. They have collected t"getbcr in consecutive pages
all the statutes made since 1S51. on the same subject.
Thus, on pares J73 to 377 of their firt volume they have
collected all our legislation, now in farce, on the subject u
