STATUTES OF IXDLVXA.
GAVI.X A: IIUIIDR KCVIKIOTI.
The aeeond volume of Veun-Garts k Hord'a compila
tion of Indiana Stamtea baa Jat appeared. ThU volume
corrplete their work. Its mechanical execution ia ver
creditable; and the kill, learning:, and labor which tbe
editor have bestowed on It, merit the hib' at pralae.
None but learn d, tluijft nt lawytri could have produced
ich a work.
The second volume emtracea all the public statute cf
litdiana now in force upon the utject to which it relate,
and the first all excepting the acts of the last regular and
extra aehaions of th. Legislature. It is a frreat excel
lence of the compilation that all existing Statute on each
abject are collected together in the same place In thete
volumes; o that tie reader can tee at a g'ance all tbe
legislation In force en any given subject. Take, for ex
ample, the act of organizing Court of Common
Hea the editor publish the act at large, and they also
print, in the form of notes on the same page- containing
this statute, all the acta amendatory to it which hare
been passed up to this time. And so they bare done of
all the other acts contained In the revision of lv52.
The editors have added much to tbe value of these rel
umes especially the last by the copious and karat d
note, with which the vol umea abound. These notes indi
cate much labor and legal acunieu. They furnish u. In a
concise and accurate form, with all the adjudication of
our Supreme Court on the statutes. These adjudica
tion being now very numerous, the references to them
In th volumes un iercnHderatien, will be of great value
to the lawyer, and indeed to all peron concerned in the
aimiriistra'ion of justice. Tbe ed:tors hare also refrreJ,
u their note, to numerous decisions in othet States,
made on statute similar to ours.
An excellence of these volumes, not tobe overlooked
I. the full and accurate indtix appended to each. In Indi
ana, there never has been a good index to any volumes of
statutes published by authority. This provoking defect
la been completely remedied in tic volumes under re-
iew; and these indexes w ill greatly ligbun tbe labor of
all w ho have occasion to look into our statutes.
This is the tirst time that private enterprise has at
tempted the publication of Indiana statute. The at
tempt, I do not doubt, will be Micoessful, and will
duly reward the learned editors and enterprizin publish
er. Every lawyer will, T course, purchase these volumes;
and every clerk, sheriff, and justice of the peace of the
Stale, will find it to Lis advantage to own them.
DAVID il' DONALD.
Indianapolis, June 5, 162
The tore going notice by Judge McDosau, of Gavix A
Hoko's Compilation of the Statutes of Indiana, is not de
signed as a puff of the work, but is an unsolicited com
meudatiou of tLe ability, accuracy, and completeness
with which these volumes have been prepared.
The second volume, which has just been issued from
the pr as, i being delivered to subscribers as rapidly as
possible. This edition of the statutes will be found a ne
cessity to every lawyer, justices of tbe peace, and county
oflicers in the State. Tbe publication cf the w ork is a
private enterprise, ami tbe publishers' only hope for re-
lumcMtion is in its sale to those for who.se convenience
it wa prepared. The two volumes contain about 16O0
paes of matter, nearly double the quantity embraced
the tevislon of liö2.
The price of the work is ?4 50 per volume, or 49 00 for
tbe two volumes. Orders addressed to the subscriber w il
receive prompt attention. J.J. BINGHAM,
