The great length of the tax list, which we
publish to-day, renders it impossible for us to
give the usual amount of reading matter. (Our
* advertising friends will please excuse the non
appearance of their advertisements in to-day's
issue. After to-morrow, we shall publish the
tax list in the form of a supplement.

Kenner, President; Layet, Secre'tay; Catiard. Aeistant
Secretary ; Maddox, Printer.
The Ctnvention then adjourned in honor of the mem
ory of Judge Isoso T. Preston.

Lat Second Municipality, was killed, as also were Mr. John

own have been killed. Capt. Wright. the principal owner iof
the St.James was badly scalded. and we heard this evening
ev that he wil, in all probability. lose his eyesight. Capt
C,(rke, master of the St. James. was struck on the head
with a timber, and pretty amdly bruised. Oliver Reont
the second engineer, who had charge of the engines at the
time of explosion, was badly scalded. The fourth engineer,
whose name we.base not learned, was hlot.
This terrible casualty, which has hurled so many souls
1 into eternity, is attributed by different persons to different
causes. Some of the passengers say the boilers were de
S festive. As usual, we presume, the true cause never will
h be known. It is positively stated, however, that at the
time of the accident the coat was being pushed to her ut
