Saturday Merning. September 18, 1852 of ic
Our general market during the past week bas presented
no striking feature beyond the active demand for Cotton
which has prevailed most of the time. The rece;pts of las. ,
this staple have been quite large, and abundant scope has Sennr.
been giren to operators, with a rather lower scae of flo.cE
prices. There has aiso been some demand for Tobacco,
but generally the stock hasn been held above the views of
bnyers, and the transactions are not heavy. Western
produce of all kinds has been qul^t. Flour has given
way in price, while Corn has continued very firm. Pork
and Bacon have been dull and drooping. Whiky has
also fallen off slightly in the rates. Freights have con- r F.
tined to improve. Exchange has been very dull. We aekM
have published telegraphic accounts of two European
steamers during the week. The Ilumboldt from South
ampton on the Ist, and the Niagarafrom Liverpool on the , a,
4th instant. The advices by the latter state the sales of
Cotton during the week ending the 3d instant at Liver
pool, at 61.000 bles, of which 5000 had been taken by
exporters, and 18.000 by speculators. The official quota
tions were, for Fair Orleans 6?ed. Middling Orleans 54;.

9 It. The Collins steamer Pacific was to have left Liver
pool on the 8th instant, and the Africa, of Cunard's line, n,
on the 11th, both for NewYork direct.
Our weather has been variable, the early part of the a
week being very cool. and the latter part warm. The ac- York,
counts from the interior have been rather less f.tvorale de s
with regard to the growing crops, but the weather is g,
orally represented ao good. The boll worm has made it,,,,
appearance in some districts. and the rust and roa in
others, but complaints in these regards are not general.
COTTON-We left the Cotton market, at the dale of
our lett weekly review, with a rather drooping appearno e.
There was little improvement observable on Saturday.
and factor rsucceeded in dlspesing of 1300 bales by t'eon- hIh,
cession of ran s14 ' It. This reduction brought buyers c°'O.
forward more freely on tMonday, and fully 3000 bales were
sold. On Tuesday there was even a more active demand. oble,)
resulting in sales of 8750 bales at fiem prires. On Wed-cIsc
nesday buyers had pretty much filled their orders, and
the sales did not exceed 2750 bales, and on Thursday only N
2000 bales were taken, prices remaning without any ma
terl alsteration. Yesterday's sales embraced about
2000 bales, making the entire business of the week Int
14.800 bales. The receipts at this port since the stor
st instaunt have been 40.271 bales, against 25.948 to the 1l
same date last year, showing an increase of 14.328 bales.
The receipts of the week are 23,104, against 14.386 for the q
corresponding week last year. Prices yesterday fell off DlIn
