The sale to the State of Virginia, the writer says,.was not included in a recent letter of Mr- Wash ington to a South Carolina lady, in which he stated that Mount Veron was not for sale. BUILDoNG STEvasmHIPS FOR RuSSAr.-A New York paper says: The Russian navy officers who have been in this country for some time, superintending the construc tion of some large men-of-war for their government, have been recalled. Russia will now want steamers for the Black sea instead of war vessels. The re ported arrival in this country of Admiral Greenap, one of Russia's most distinguished naval officers, who was lately on a special mission to Stockholm, may, therefore, have connexion with the establishment of the proposed line of steamers, which must, of course, be built in this country, since Rassia--both govern ment and people-is resolved to free herself from the tutorship hitherto exercised over her by England. Mr. Neafle, the tragedian, is playing in Buffalo. BoDY FousN.-A very serious affair is chronicled in the last Caddo Gazette, which "should be a warn ing," etc.: The body of one of the young men of our town was found in his bed on Thursday last, by the black man who blacks boots. He had been Missing for several days. On examination he was found to be " alive and "-badly kicked. Large numbers of citizens are selling out their property and preparing to follow those who have sold out before, and emigrated westward. The parties leaving are chiefly mechanics and laboring men of the better class, who think that opportunities for acquiring com petence are greater towards the setting sun than. there. Some of them will probably change their opinion in the matter after a short experience in the land of their hopes. " The question of printing the memorial of the sef styled Kansas Legislature (presented by Mr. Cass other day,) was resumed. Mr. Butler opposed the mction; on the ground that the memorial was arrogant in its language, and.it printing wonid be in violation of one of the rules of. the Senate. He had no objection to having Kasas' come into the Union as a free State or a slave State; but he wanted it to come in honestly through the gate, and not climb over the wall or get under it. Mr. Mason thought the memorial ought not to have been received, but he should now move that it be laid' on the table. Mr. Seward desired to speak on the question. Mr. Shorter contended that Massachusetts,e by h conduct relative to the fugitive slave law, has place herself outside the Iale of the constitution, and ought not tobe represented here. The Soath, he said,'hede been victimized every time she has compromisedwith. the North ; and he hoped, therefore, that no furtheir attempt of that kind would be made. Not only Ala. bama, but every Southern State, is resolved, should the government fail to protect them in their constitu tional rights, to take the remedy into their own hands. Various members debated the Senate's., amendment appropriating nearly $50,000 for engraving the maps and drawings accompanying the reports of the ex glorations and srveya to determine the Pacific Railroad route. The question of extravagance was discussed in this connection; One gentleman said that the printing and engraving of this work would cost a million of dollars, while others thought that asuch large outlays would havethe effect of prejudicing I the construction of the road. An ineffectual effort wa- made to confine the appro priation within proper !iiits, excluding the illnstra ions ttedonly t adorn books of travel and natural history. i The amendment was rejected, and the House adjourned.
