COZSCE" T OFloo, No. 70 Camp street, l Saturday Morning, April 19,1856.$ A fair degree of animation has prevailed in our general mar. ket during the past week, the supplies of most articles of West ern Produce having been liberal, and fi some instanocs exceed ing the demand. Our leading staples have been in good request generally, and prices have been well sustained; though in Cot ton operations have been restricted by the reduced stock on sale. The receipts of Sugar anid Iolases have embraced but a mall proportion of the better qualities, and these descriptions Iare been rather firm, while the Common sorts have found a heavy market. Tobacco has come in pretty freely, anl met with a ready demand at full prices. Flour and Corn have declined, and most articles of Provisions fell off in prices early in the week, but have subsequently rallied. Freights have been dull, and still lower. and Exchanges have further advanced in prices. On Tuesday morning we published advices from Liverpool, to tile 29th ult., received by the Washington and Cambria. They reported a heavy Cotton market at Liverpool, especlally for tile better qualities, with sales of about 42,00 bales for the week preceding the Cumbrob's departure, including 12,000 taken for speculation and export. Tile quotatons were stated at do.a for Fair Orleans; 5%d for Middling Orleans; 06d for Fair Up lands, and 5 13.16d for Middling Uplands. Yesterday morning tile Baltic's accounts appeared in our col umns, giving us four days later.itelligence from Liverpool, and reporting all advanc of jd in the Cotton maet there, mostly, Iowever0, o the lower grades. Consols hoad farther advanced, owing, In a measure, no doubt, to the conclusion and signing of the Tnreay of Peace, and closed at 93;0. COTTON....We left thl Cotton market at tie close of our last weekly report with a firm appearance, and a fair demand, cloing a businroo of 61,000 bales for the week. On Satnrday the enquiry was fair, but with a reduced stock on sale, and very firm pretensions on the part of factors, the sales were confined to about 600 bales. On donday, again the supply was very limited, and only about 500bales changed hands during the day, prices generally being very full, and not perceptibly nfected by the Washington's accounts, which were received early in the day, and appeared in the cveninlgpapers. On Tuesday morting, witl the Cambria's advices befo ththem, buyers came forward pretty freely, and as the eltreme views of factors were some what moderate, the sales embraced 9000 bales, there being yet no qootable alteration in the rates. On Wednesday a very active demand prevailed, resulting in a business of fully 17,000 bales at full prices. A reduced supply was thus left for Thursday's operations, and factors were still more stringent in their terms, but buyers came forward pretty freely, and took nearly 10,000 bales, tie closing rates requiring an advance of oe in our fig ures for Middling and upper grades. Yesterday the Baltic's ac* counts gave a further impulseto the demand, and although foe tors further, and materially, advanced their rates, tile sales reached fully 14,500 bales, making the total business of the week 56,500 bales.
