We trot the, futire will notdisappoint us; notwithstand ing the iincident referred to has. Before we proceed eto'ake the CourIer " out of its boots," it is propor we should- make On explanation, which every puhlisher' of anewspaper will readily mderstand and acknowledge. The advertisement out of which the Courier seeks to make political capi 'tai; wa handed to our' book-keeper by a responsible merchant of this city. Without thinking and with out consulting the editors, he sent it to the compo eitlon room. Of course it was duly published. Had It met our eyes previous to publlcation, it would have been summarily rejected, because of the bad taste embodied in its wording. Although we publish an ad.ertising pnper-and'thanks to the kindness of lur friends, we have no reason to complain of a lack of eubstaotial encouragement-itdoes not follow that we doe not'possess an absolute controi over our advertis ing columns, just as much as we do over our reading columns.. So much by way of explanation. Now for some thing else. Becadse a wretched advertisement, under the head of: wants;" appearedin the Crescent, and because the Crescent supports the principles of the American party, the Courier seeks to bring odium upon the whole party on account of that advertisemeut m What a petty subterfuge ! What a miserable pretext to acquire capital What a " small potato". business itisthroughout ! If the Democratic party of New OrleanIsis so weak and imbecile that it must needs prop up its drooping fortunes by taking exception to the words of a four line advertisement of a solitary advertiser, it must certailby be in the last stages of political consumption! It is said drowning men catch at straws. The Democratic party must be going under the waters of defeat when it is deemed indispensable to clutch at such astraw as this. Why, it hasn't boyancy endugh, to bear the weight of a mosqtito, much lees that of a fragmentary portion of a once powerful party. Let us ask theCourier a question, and we appeal to its sehse of fairness to do us, and the party to which we belong, justice-simple justice--in the premises. If an advertisement in the Crescent-an Ame'rican newspaper-renders the American party amenable to charges of intolerance, religious bigotry and malignancy, and proscription of class and creed would not the same advertisement, if published in a Democratic newspaper, render the Democratic party amenable to the same charges ? Answer yea or nay., You must answer in the affirmative, for there's no escaping the alternative. The advertisement about which the Courier essays to create a false impression on the public mind, was published in the New Orleans Delta the same morn ing it was published in the Crescent, and has been continued since ! The Delta is as much noted for its hostility to the American party as the Courier, and throws its whole influence on the side of the Demo cracy. Yet the Courier triesto make out the Ameri can party criminal because of the accidental publica tion of a miserable advertisement in the Crescent, while it hasn't a word to say against the publication of the same advertisement in a Democratic organ! What is criminal in one case, is Eden-like innocence in another! Does the Courier suppose it can cram such unadulterated nonsense down the throats of an intelligent community? A few words in conclusion. In attempting to in jure the:American party, the Courier has made gross miscalculations and gross misstatements, which, when corrected, will cause its missiles to recoil upon itself and its party. The editors evidently wrote un der a complete misapprehension. They assume that the writer of the advertisement in question is a big sted Yanhkee Protestant. On, the contrary, he is a Kentuckian by birth; and for aught we knsow, is a Catholic. He is certainly relited to the first Creole farilies of the State, if we are not much mistaken. And, he voted for Mr. John 11. Bell, the Democratic candidate for Sheriff of the Parish of Orleans, at Ihe last election ! From the foregoing facts the public can judge of the Americanism of the writer of the advertisement. The Democraoy might as well take charge of their own, and pocket the olss, first as last. Contseted Electlons. We are given to unadrstand that the suit of Wil liam C. Auld, contesting the election of J. B. Walton, to' the. Clerkship of the Fourth District Court, will prohably ho brought to a close to-day. The case has oecupied the Court since the 7th inst., and all of that time, except the afternoon session of Friday last, (the Courtnot sitting in the case on Saturday) in taking the testimony of Auld and reading the depositions of about one undred and fifty or two hundred witnesses, taken byplaintiff before Justices Richardson and Daly. We understand that the argument of counsel will be made to-day, and the ease given to the jury this ev.ning or to-night. From the well known ability of the counsel in the case, it may be expected that a rare legal and intellectual treat will be offered to those who may be present. Hon. Randell Hunt and L. Madison Day, Esq., represent Col. Walton, and E. A. Bradford, Esq., and Hon. Geo. S. Lacey, Mr. Auld. We anticipate the argument of Mir. Hunt will embrace matters which greatly interest the public at this time, and we are confident that the attention be has given to the case, and his acknowledged ability to throw light upon and make clear and comprehen sive any subject upon which he may treat, will invest what may fall from him with more than ordinary in temret. We shall, if possible, give our readers a re port of, the argument. It seems now, that uone of these protracted and unjust suits is about to be dispos ed of, after keeping the party elected out of office over six months, during which time the defeated party has been receiving the emoluments. So we go. The case of Tappan vs. Foute, for the office of Dis. trict Attorney, which has been once disposed of by the Supreme Court, and which, under a law passed by the last "patent" Legislature, on the last day of the session, in violation of the judgment of the tri. bunal of last resort, is to be tried anew, a new suit having been institutedsince that judgment. In that case, and the cases of the Clerkships of the Fifth and Sixth District Courts, we doubt if final proceedings will be had until next .January. So we find, that with Democratic contestants in office, with a Demo cratic Legislature ready and anxious to do the bid ding by special legislation of corrupt party leaders, and with a court, unmindfulof its obligations to the public, exhibiting upon the .beneli a spirit of parti sanship heretofore unheard of, ourelections and the will of the people are set at defiance, and the will of the Democratic Central Committee made the ruling and controlling power in the land. How long will the people submit to these outrages I We think the day is at hand when they will be re formed-when equal justice will be meted out, in all the departments of the Government. We have something more to say in this connection, but mist defer it, as our columns are already crowded. When wedo conunence, there shall be such a rattling of the dry bones of political corruptionas was never known in this or any other community.
