SThat Brealfast."~ Although many things are uncertain in this uncer aiin world, we think two things may be set down as cabolutely certain, viz: that Mr. Joseph Genois, ex Recorder of the old First Municipality and present Surveyor of the Port of New Orleans, takes good breakfasts on Sunday, if he doesi't breakfast on any other day in the week, and that our good friend, Dr. W. P. Reyburn, knows how to ejoy well got-up break fasts and other fuethingsof ian appetitizing charonc tera u'well to write and publish queer and funny cards,- All those who know the Doctor, and all who read hbiseard in another column, will avow the unan swerableness of both of these propositions. We, have read over the Doctor's card, and have laughed heartily while perusing it. We have the pleasure of being- well acquainted with the " hila rosoia; evenjovial'" Doctor; and must express our de Aided conviction that he laid back in his chair and fairly roared with laughter something less than three hundred and sixty-five times while penning the card referred to. .The' Doe: " dearly loves a: joke;" and, when eis in possession of a good one, will divulge, evenat his own expense: He looks upon the man as a sort of criminal who Withholds onything calenlated it make the people "laugh and grow fat." Gracious goodness knows lie has thrived enormously upon the happy principle. The gist of the Doctor's card may be summed-upi in a few sentences. For a long time Dr. Reyburn has been in the habit of taking Sunday breakfastsat the house of Mr. Genois. [This is first-rate evidence that Pr. Genois gives good breakfasts--glorious breakfasts -for the Doctor has as holy a horror of poor break-n feasts as he has an exalted opinion of excellent break fasts, and his taste in breakfasting respects is unex ceptionable.] He went, as usual, to breakfast with idr. Genois last Sunday. The breakfast must have been one Epicurns would have envied, as the Doctor did not depart from the hospitable and luxurious mansion until about 1 o'clock in the afternoon! The Doctor met quite a number of "the principal Democrats of the Second District" on the interesting occasion. All spoke "hopefully" of the prospects of the Democracy. The Doctor didn't see a solitary "Sicilian," and didn't hear a "single word" said about" weapons." The foregoing is the substance of theDoctor's card. We would, but for fear of being deemed inquisitive, venture upon a question or two, something in this style: whether the Doctor was not paying more at teition to the breakfast than the " Sicilians ?" whether he, didn't consider exquisite eatables and drinkables too important -to be overlooked in a scrutiny after "weapons?" and whether he did not deem the sue Ceseful enjoyment of the present (that Sunday) the most sensible thing a sensible man could do? But, we won't put any such interrogations. The -world is censorions; and our action in the premises might be misunderstood, or not freely comprehended. Norton To MAnrrxRs.-The Iron Can Buoy mark ing the " Black Ledge" to New London Harbor, Ct., has been removed for repairs. A Spar Buoy, painted red, and numbered 2, has been put in its place. A Spar Buoy, painted with red and black horizon tal stripes, has beeio placed to mark the West end of the "Sea Flower Reef," west entrance to Fisher's Island Sound, New York, and will be kept there until the beacon is lighted. T.E ELECtORAL DISTRICT COhv rNTION.-The va rious parishes of this district,, says the Baton Rouge Gazette, of the 3d, were so badly represented that the Convention met and adjourned to meet again on the third Monday of this month at the same time with the State Convention. There is no question that the assembling of the State Convention so soon deterred the party from sending delegates now, and we think it acted wise, in as much ad it will, in all respects, be more convenient. We learn from the Washington Union, of the 30th nit., that Mr. Cavalcanti d'Alburquerque, presented his credentials to the President on the 29th, and was received as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Pleni potentiary of his Majesty the Emperor of Brazil. Some of our readers (says the same paper,) will remember that about eighteen years since, the same gentleman most acceptably represented his Govern ment here as Charge d'Afllires. MARINE DLSASTER.-The ship Lawson, (of Bath,) Watts, from Newpa, Eng., for New Orleans, with railroad iron, struck on the shoal near Watermillo Reefs, near Nuevitas, about the 2th iult. Capt. Brown, the sculptor of the equestrian statue of Washington, ordered for Union Square, New York, we learn from the New York papers, is now about to prepare a model fora colossal statue of Henry Clay, by direction of a committee of gentle men from New Orleans, and which will cost about twenty thousand dollar, exclusive of the base. Among the passengers by the Africa was Mrs. Fanny Kemble, who returns after a protracted visit to England, where she has been giving her dramatic readings with very great success. Nearly a.l if not quite all, the principal railroad companies, whose roads lead to Cincinnati, have re duced the fare to one-half the customary rates, during the'sitting of the Democratic National Convention. Edltoreof the Crescent: ~o:eltesena-;Your.e aemrou readers, as well as the public, know that on the 17th day of April, 1854, I was elected Chief Clothk of the Ohlrity Hospital, vice Henry Vanderltnden, owho, for reasons unknown to me, was discharged from that ofce by hidapoliticl friends. Iremaned a offer of the ospital up to the 2d of Felbtaer last, whoen'on account of my being n active member of the American party, I lost my office. I'sad nothing, felt perfectly stiseed, and knew that under a Democratid gov rnment, I need not expect an olce, for I had been active on the American side. Previous to my election to the ofliee of Chief Clerk of the Hospital, I cmmenced reading medicine, and while in that institution I employed all my lelere moments in the study'of that scdence. The present Administrators, atone of their frst meetings, nominated three physteluos-pre. Choppin, Beardend Brickoll--a commitdt to have candidates for tle post of Resi dent Students of the Charity Hospital examined, and requested sadl gentlemen to report pon merit. I presented myself before the Medieat Committee,o ,teox minoed, and by them reeom mended sdeserving their et.kes. The Bomd, for no otheee.'ons, as far as my knowledge extend, but political, did ot lecot me. thereby not taking into eooilderadon the reeommendaddoe of thereeer teble annd oapo. ble phystcians, and committing an act,of injustice inconsistent with the resoltion appointing an impartial Medical Committee. In aeting thus the Board shew no resplet for the report of the Medical Committee, but coneittuted themselves doctors of supe rior intellectual value. But the most flagant injustice-that which has given origin to this commdceattion-.ao act whleh m.nt be'condemned by every gentleman, Amerlcans or Democrats-an injustice to which I am expected to slbmit-has been inflictedupon me. I now pro. ceed to narrateit as briefly as possblhe: The Board of Administrators, at a meeting held on Thursday last, the 5th day of June, adopted a resolution forbidding my entrance into the Charity Hospital under any circumstances whatever. I yesterday repaired to tile Hospital, in order to essist as usual,, in the phyilciea's citis, and was informed of the above cited aetios of the Board, by Dr. Choppin, who expressed to me his personal regret. Now, every one knows me to he a peaceable, law-abiding citi con. Every one connected with the Hospital, I am certain, will testify that my conduct ton that institution has been that of a gentleman. Conseqdently, convinced that nothing but political feelings have actuated the Adminlstratora of tihe Hospital in the commissionof an at whidch must be condemned by every gen tleman, irrespective of party-an act disgraceful in itself. Satis Bed of the fact, that the entrance to an American institution is refused to a man because he is an American, an American med ical student, Iproclaim such atrocities as unworthy of gentle. men, and ask if such a system of prosrilption can long be tolerated in a country where the American flog foats. Never am I to enter an Institution where I have been useful, and where I have friends-an institution, the only place inl this city where I can acquire the knowledge necessary tothepractice of the professon I have embarked in. No, never I not even by paying the fee exacted from all visitors from all classes of soiety. A I not to be permitted to enter an insttiton where the right of admission is insured to all other, medical stu deonte Icannotbuthbelieve that the Board of Administrators exceeded their authority when that tyrannical resolution was adopted. They must have exceeded their powerse. Common sem whispersthat to me. Suppose they should refuse admis sion in the Hospital to every medical studentof the Medical Department of the University of louisiana, what would be the consequence? That the school would fall; that the school, intituted by law, could no more exist. And have they the right of nntlhilating an institution which is an honor to the South No ! a thousand times no. I conelude, Iessrs. Editors, and must nasure the Adminestam tors of the Charity Hospital, that a higher tribunal than theirs will decide between them and Your humble servant, Louos . Heson, SURRFoDERING GRACEFULLY.-Now-a-days it is so common for Democratic candidates to contest any election in .which they may be defeated, that it is an act of courtesy, imountng almost to magnanimity, for one of them to depart from the custom, and leave the field without makbg a fuss. This being the case, it affords us pleasure to learn that Recorder Rsmos intends to retre quetly and gracefully from the oMlice he owosholds. He has ignifod to Mr. Fabre, not only that he will not dispute his election as his sucessor, but that he is ready to resign his seat at any moment Mr. F. may choose to call for it. We hope that the other gentlemen whose days office are num r4d, will follow the Recorder's example. THIEVES LYNCHED.-A party of six or eight gentle men went down tothe lae, by the new Shell Road, on Thursday ovenng, to have a supper and a both. While they were lhtxri. ating in the water, a tridl of well-known chevaiers <Pindustris went into the bath-house, and appropriated a gold watch and 00 in cr h, whibch were in the pockets of the clothing. They owere, however, detected before they got off, and the bthers startedin pursult and captured them. Thie thieves threw their booty into the lake; an operation which their pursuers happened to see. The bathers, being in a jolly humor, searched tile fel lows, seiled a pistol that one of them had, and then compelled them to go into the lake and search for the articles they had hrown over. They found tie watch and $300 of the money, hlch lthey fancied would liberate them from further punish ent ; but they were wofuls y mistaken. After coming out of the water, thlcey were pinioned, and a rope put around the neckt of each. They were pulled and Jerked about fora while, and finally tied up and logged; their captors taking turn about, with a buggy whip, and givlng them about a hundred lashes each. Withthis vengeance the frolicking party were satisfied, andset the poor wretches at liberty. Thethieves, we learn, were considerablydisfigured by tlte flogglugo they received. A GREEK STABED.-Constantino Gierjerdai, a na tive of Greece, was stabbed on Thursday night on the levee be tween the markets, by one of a trio of men who mistook hdm fora Sielllan. RECORDER BRIGHT'S COURT.--James Ne sbit wa yesterday sent before the First District Court for an assault and battery upon Charles lsare, on Tehoupitoulas street, on the 19th blt. lfe gave bail. The following parties were arraigned, and their cases fhoed for examination: Policeman Peter Conway, an Irishman, was arraigned on three asfdavits, the aggregate of which is, that he went into the grooery of Mr. John C. Fleisher, on Baronne street, on Tlloro. day evening, wtlh a cane-sword in his hand, with which Ihe successively attempted to stab Mr. Fleisher, and a nelce of his, and John M. Burk, the clerk, and John Lewis, who happened to be i thel grocery also. He was required to fornlsh bail of o500 on each accusatlon In default of which he was sent to prison. The cauo of Peter's extraordinary demonstration, we are informed, was this: He is a "broth of h boy," who was paid$150 for electioneering for the Democratic party. Receiv ing his money, he dida't go on duty, blt went on spree. lie got gloriously drunk, went to a brothel on Penn street; was there robbed of two-thirds of his fortune ($100 , tise woman fled; he drew his case-sword and started in pursuit. Mr. Fleisher, his clerk and Mr. Lewis, interfering, Peter proposed to skewer all of them, and would doubtless have done somel damsge, had not Lseut. I have seen some allusions to a breakfast which came off at the house of Joseph Genots, Esq. on Sunday last, and I have deemed it proper to make the following statement : For tilhe Iast year or eighteee months I have been in the habit of break fasting with Mr. Genois on every Sunday, sometimes omitting it for other enggements. He hns ben in the habit of throwing his house open on every Sunday, like an old Norman Baron places and provender are prepared in extravagant abundance for all-sometimes five, sometimes ten and often twelve or twenty persons sit down to the table. On the 1st of June (Inst Sunday) I paid my weekly visit to his hospitable mansion on St. Peter street. I found quite a number there, comprising the principal Dlemocrats of the Second District. We poke hope. fully of the prospects of the Democratic party-we surveyed the ground of the approaching election and he measures of success which suggested themselves to us as party men. I metbutfew strangers there; and if there was a Sicilian present I did not know him. I recognized many of the staunch men of the party there. There was not one single word said of asserting Demo eratic rights with weapns. No one exhibited an arm of any sort, nor was there a single suggestion that violence should be met with violence on the day of election. The meeting was hilarious, even jovial, and I was about the last to leave it, at or near 1 o'clock, P. 31. je? Spit W. P. RFEYBURN. .1 Card.
