The ticket is a very strong one, particularly the nomination for Governor. Mr. Walker is one of the most talented and popular men in the State, and if elected will make the best chief magistrate Florida has ever had, with the ex ception of Gov.-Brown. Mr. Baker, though not so well known throughout the State as Mr. Walker, is a gentleman of a high order of talents. The Stato Convention of the American party con venes in atonon uge on Monday next. From all we can gatier we are nlalined to believe there will be general'attendante of delegates from the varlone parished of the State. The clty.will be largely repre. sented; and on` the various lists of delegates are to be found the names of our ablest and most truat. worthy citizens. Not having been tfrnished with lists, of course we are unprepared to spread the names before our readers. But this is of no conse. qnence, as the siames will formally appear in the oicial. pr.oeedingaeof the Convention, which we shall transfer to our columns as soon as promulgated. From the cral: ditricts the delegations will be numerons, and unexceptionable in point of ability and character. Having already supplied the public with.lhe proceedings of many American meetings held in the interior, it is unnecessary to make further reference. Much will depend upon the action of Monday's Convention.' All State Conventions are mofe or less important, but this one is peculiarly important. The State Council having, iby its own act, dissolved itself, and divested itself of all power and authority, after Monday next, It-will devolve upon the Convention to originate, mature and adopt, a new plan of'organiza tion, which swill be effective, while it is brief and comprehensive, and adapted alike to therequignments of the party both in the State and in the city. After tonday,'there will be no American organiza. tion in the State of Louisiana, saving and excepting that which the Convention may establish. We con sider the course of the State Council, in making the organitation an open one, and in surrendering their authority intot the hands of their -constituents, wise and judicious. Circumstances had obviated original necessities; and, now, it only remains for the Conven. tion to adopt and enforce a few simple, plain rules, and set forth a plan of action which will meet with the approbation of every patriot. It seems to us this can be done with little or no trouble, if experienced, able and practical men, are charged with the duty. Of course the nomination of Fillmore and Donelson will be unanimously and'enthusiasticallyratified. The one has proved :himself, in times of trial, a sound, able, conservative. patriot-a statesman in the most exalted sense of tlhb term, without fear and above re proach. He canpoint to a clearer, nobler and purer past, than any other prominent political man of the present generation. In the nobleness and nationality of his character, he stands without a peer. Mr. Donel son is equally irreproachable, and deserving of popsu lar support. Among the business of moment which will come before the Convention is that of selecting a State Executive Committee to conduct the canvass and have management of the afitirs of the party gener ally. 'The headquarters of this committee should be located in New Orleans; and the members thereof should be chosen with express reference to their tact, industry and experience. Every parish in the State should have one member at least, and all the mem bers should attend the monthly meetings as regularly as practicable. An efficient committee can do much good. An inefficient committee an incalculable amount of evil. Some arrangements should be effected to appoint sub-electors in every Parish and Representative Dis trict in the State. All the work should not be put upon the electors and alternates. This plan has been tried is other States and has been found to workad mhirbly. However, it is not necessary to speculate as to the future. The matter is in the hands of the delegates chosen by the people. We are confident they will consideroand act upon everything essential to the in terests of the party and the welfare of the common wealth, properly and wisely. We understand most of the New Orleans delegates will depart for Baton Rouge on the packet which leaves to-morrow morning, at 0 o'clock. Mresars. Editors : Having on Wednesday last taken passage at Port Pontchartraiq, on board the new steamboat Kate Frisbee, for one of the sea shore vil lages, and as so much has been said regarding this steamer, I cannot resist on this occasion expressing the pleasure and gratification enjoyed. The boat, its management, its general arrangement--in fact, in all the various details which tend for the comfort, con venience and accommodation of passengers, are fully eonsidered and carried out by the captain, orwners and officers. Although it was the warmest day of the season and the boat crowded to excess by both pas sengers and freight, there was not, so far as our obser vation extended, a solitary complaint. Eiverything relating to the purveyoros or commis sary department of'the boat was so different and so fair superior to the old line of boats, that to realize the change one must travel on the Frisbee. In the general outfit and furnishing of the Frisbee no ex pense has been spared, and nothing omitted to render her one of the most comfortable boats that ever floated on the waters of Lakes Pontchartrain and Borgue. As regards safety, her superior has never yet appeared on the lakes. Every olne acquainted with science, mechanism and engineering, will con firm this. Whilst expressing my satisfaction with the boat, I cannot omit to urge on those desirous of patronizing her and encouraging a sound competition in trade, that in shipping or forwarding freight, they will re gard the convenience of one hundred and fifty pas sengers who generally happen to embark on the Fris bee, that they forward their freight and baggage at an early hour; as on Wednesday last, the 11 o'clock train of cars had nine or ten car loads of freight which had to be received on its arrival at the lake. The convenience offered by the Frisbee in land ing at the Jefferson Railroad cannot be overlooked. The cost of one quarter of an eagle each, on horses, can be avoided by sending them and carriages down the shell-road. The fict also that the boat lands at this road on Monday and Thuersday mornings in time for the first train of cars for the city, saves much trouble and expense to the residents of the First and Fourth Districts, as well as Carrollton and Jefferson City, and they arrive at the Horse Station, Nayades street, at sJ o'clock, A. It.,I[ld Tivoli circle a few minutes alter. MIoreover, the sleeping accomodations of the Frisbee ought not to be disregarded, being fitted with state-rooms, having openings, inwalrd and outward, giving the'traveler the advantage of a free circulation of air; which, with large and commodious berths, render it unnecessary to be sweltered to suf focation while undergoing the demands of morpheos. VInceN BA., May Oth, 1i56. Editorss Crescent--As there are several passengers goingto the States by this steamer, I will continue myrecord up to date, and, if possible, I will forward with this a number of last Saturday's Nicareguense On Thursday last, tile General removed his head quarters from Granada to this place, theenemyhaving abandoned the entire country, and in such haste as to leave behind much ammunition and many guns and a number of their wounded and sick. They com pletely sacked Rivas, taking everything they could airy away, and robbing the inhabitants who remain ed in the city of everything eatable and drinkable thee.could find. This invasion of the Costa Ricaiens has been one continued scene of ravage, plunder and devastation, and yet, just as they quit the country, in the extremesthaste, their Commander-in-Chief has the impudence to write General Walker that he " ex pected that he (Walker) would take care of the sick which he left behindin Rivas." General Mhom, be fore he left tile country, declared that all these ma rauder-like acts were done by the Chamorristes in his army ; but why did he allow them to do so, and why did he not pay the people in and around Rivas for whatever his army took for its use ? As the smoke and obscurity that enveloped the Costa Rican army while it was here clears off, we find less and less in their conduct to admire, and now that they refused our offersof peace, rejected with scorn our MIinister, invaded our territory, and murdered our citizens, and sacked our cities, all fo no good cause whatever, we think that we are justified in returning the compli qlent with just as good interest as the case may re quire. Rivas is a city of barricades. Immediately after the action of the 11th alt., the Costa Ricans, fearing another attack in that city, went to work and fortified it-as it never was fortified before. At the entrance to the Plaza from each street, a wall of wood, stone, or adobe was thrown up so as to form a breast work; the houses on the Plaza were all perforated for muskets to fire through, and the churches were all surrounded with a wall, behind which the soldiers could rally. It is really astonishing how much work they did in so short a time, and all for nought. There was an enemy amongst them that no barricade can stop-the cholera-and it did the work of an attack ingarmy. It is known now that during the last few days the Costa Ricans stayed in Rivas, they lost about eighty per day, and out of all the thirty-seven hun dred that came down into Nicaragua, only about two thousand returned. Their actual loss in killed, wounded and missing, by the battle of the 11th ult., was upwards of one thousand. The dead bodies of Costa Ricans line all the by-paths out of Rivas and San Juan Sur, and even around this place we have found several bodies in various stages of decomposi tion. The next movement of General Walker will be towards Costa Rica, but not until lie has a force suffi cient to ensure success. How this may be looked upon in other parts of the world is of little matter now, for we have suffered from an enemy who at tacked us without reason or a cause that can be justi fied before the world, and, having failed to conquer Nicaragua, and having rejected our friendly advances with scorn and disdain, there are none so lost to honor now as to advise Walker to a peace with them until they have felt the avenging blow, and until they have given " indemnity for the past and security for the future." As that was good Democratic doctrine once upon a time with Pierce and his friends, we like the doctrine now as a good plank in the platform of the Democrats of Nicaragua. The sentence of the Court Martial that tried Louis Schlessinger, was read last evening upon parade. The Court decided that he (S.) should be degraded from the rank..f Colonel and that he be shot whenever found, and his name be published throughout the civilized world. The charges were ne gligence, cowardice, and desertion, etc., etc. And if he ever falls into the hands of the Nicaraguna army he will pay the penalty of his shortcomings. Those Legitimists who now fall into Walker's hands meet with their deserts. They have assisted to their ut most to bring this war upon their State and country, and now they will flid that they cannot sport with impunity with the peace and welfare of the people of Nicaragua. A few evenings since (night of the 3d inst.) the camp was enlivened by a reunion of those who sailed from San Francisco one year ago with General Walker in tle Brig Vesta. It was the first anniversary of that event, and the few of the original tG who were in camp met at the General's headquar. ters and had a jolly time for several hours. Of the immortal 56 there yet remain alive and in good health, forty, who are still in one way or another attached to the Army of Nicaragua and the fortunes of General Walker. The landing of the Pilgrims at Plyrmouth Rock was an event that is considered worthy of being commemorated by public demonstrations of the most extensive character, and I predict that the an niversary of the landing of the 5t in Nicaragua to aid the Democrats of Central America to regain their liberty and reconstruct the Confederation of 1824, will be celebrated upon as grand ascale and with as much joy and happiness as is the anniversary of any event in the history of this continent. The election that was held in this State on the last Sunday of April, for Se nators and Representatives, resulted altogetherin favor of the Democratic party, and the next session of the Legislature which is called to take place in Nicaragua on the third Sunday of this month, will doubtless be governed by principles of that party and reflect in its acts the impulse which has been given to it by the American element now in the State. The failure of Costa Rica to effect the conquest or extermination of the Democrats in this State will give an immense impulse to that party in all turhe other States of Central America, and you may not he surprised to hear of revolutions in Honduras, Salvador and Guatamala, and even in Costa Rips, before two months shall pass away. Servilism in this State is dead forever. The party has sunk to a level with the Tories of the revolution. Its warmest friends have abandoned it and declare that they cannot sustain men who can shed the blood of their own people without a better cause than merely want of power and station ; and the murder of American citizens by them in cold blood here at Virgin Bay and the burning of the wharf of the Trausit Co., are acts that will weigh them down until not a man in the State will dare to say he is a Legitininst. Thus far all is well, but the next move upon the board is as uncertain as the weather of the coming day. General Walker has just said there should now be no peace with Costa Rica with his consent.
