The New York Commercial Advertiser, in reply to a" Whig " correspondent, who prefers Mr. Fillmore, but doubts the possibility of electing him, makes the following pertinent and well consideredobservations: 1 The time seess not yet to have arrived forformning I d such decided opinions as a " Whig" and otheir friends I seem already to have assumed: Thepolitical korizon is not yet sufficiently clear for, any individual confi. dently to predict which candidate.cnnsotheelected. SEvents may transpire, are tronspirihg, whic.iany j very materially change the prespects of deither, of the :r candidates. The vote in the dHoose of Bepresenti. tivesyesterday, elsewherecommentedpobn, iluatrato this. No intelligent politician will need tobedtol that a different vote on the admission ofI Kanas-with its Topeka constitution wooldhavemateriallyaffecte the prolspects ot the Republican candidate. The oso cess or otherwise of ir. Donglas' bill in'the Senate to he voted on tomorrow, will be anoth.e el m..btn,. troduced into the campaign. And yet othe ircases may arise before November, materinlly to-clainthe aspects of the campaign and its resunlts. -, We think, therefore, that gentlemen whl aiready ehave concluded thatthis or that candidate "-cannot be elected," have a@rived prematurely at a decision; which, if persisted in, may do much to hbring abhut the very egult which they deprecate. It would, we conceive, be rather difficult for the above correspon dent to give good and sufficient reasons why "Ar. SFillmore cannot be elected." There is nothing in th man that should militate against his election. Every honest man concedes the purity of his personal ehar actor, his genuine, practical patriotism, his experience as a statesman, an administrtor and an executive, and his remarkable success while fillig the Presiden tial chair. All must concede that he spoke the truth when, on a recent occasion he briefly reminded hin bearers that when he took the helm of puilic affairs he found the country agitated with the slavery ques tion, and disturlsed in other respects; and that he left office with that agitation quelled, and the ountry happy, prosperpus, and at peace with all nations. Why, then, cannot he e be elected again to that office? SIf every citizen. oho professes to believe in ir. Fill more's qualiications for the Presidency, gives him i his vote, he will be triumphantly elected. c SNor is there nthing in t Mr. Fillmore's political oeltions that hould prevent his election. ie is the 1 candidate of a party that has confessedly great name ricval sren,-h and a perfect organization. A party,1 too, that is nstional, conservative and patriotic in sentiment. This, we conceive, must he granted even by these o ho, like ourselves, totally dissent from ito exc-lusiveness in the matters of a citizen's aativity and religion. At the head of this paty, yet, in its youthfoul vigor, A.r. Fillmore stands, as their acnowl Sedged and trusted representative. The strength of ithe attachment between the American party and ir. Fillmnore has been made abundantly apparent by the utter failureof the determined efforts, made by the disaffected, to withdraw some of the party from him and place another representative of American prin u ciples in competitibn with him. They are lost, gone, swallowed up in a sectional partywhich had not only strenuously opposed their princples, but treated their overtures iobr toioi with cold contempt. But Mr. Fillmore remaisT, stronger to-day than ever he was, in te affections of his party aidherents. While Mr. Fillmore has such party siupport, there does not seem to be a shadow of reason for despairing of his elec tion, much less for deliberately concluding that his election is an impossibility. It would not be difficult to turn the tables upon our Whig friend, and adduce some good reasons not only ihy Mrl. Filmore ought to be elected, but why he can be. Add to the fact that the party which has nomi nated him has more than once given evidence of its power, the encouraging truth that he will leceive also the support of a large body of conservative mnen ol Sboth parties--men who will revolt alike, from the sentiments of that Ostend conclave anisd from a ticket nominated purposely to represent only one-half of the sUnion. Add further, there are alarge number of Whigs scattered through[ the cointry, the large ma jority of wholn will throw their inlluence to his sunp port. They probably all would, but for the Ipjnstiliable _ conclusion that he" cannot be elected." Ad fourther that Congress may, at any time, knock feom under the Republica diandidate tile only plank which his party have allowed him. Add again the evidences of popularity which during the brief time that has elap sed since lIr. Fillmore returned home,'the hearty re sponse made to his noble and patriotic sentiments, and we think our Whig friend must see that he has much too hastily jumped to a discouraging conclu sion. But yet further proof that Mr, Fllumore's prospects of election are good, and are rapidly and manifestly - improving, is gicven in the violent abuse and nrsrepre sentatiou to which his oplponents are compelled to re sort. We could not desire filler proof tlhat the Re publicans ar alaermed at the holdl Milllrd Fillmore is getting upon the hearts of his countrymen, than the followinig from the Tribune this morting : "That MIr. Fillnlor's solemn declaratiou of hostility to the Conslitution, and of readiness'to join in its ovcrthtrio was no accidental outburst of feeling, but a deliberate and nlature expression of his permanent anod estabhished sentiments is proved by the fact that he not only uttered it at Albany, but took several oc casious to repeat it and enforce it with new phrases and forms of rhetorio at other places--at Rochester, Lockport, snd elsewhere, on his way home. These detstable opinionus mixed up as Ihsy were with hollowo protestations of fidelity to the Union, he thus atltacked a; and menaerd with destlrnelion, must suffice to open the eves of all honest persons who had any intention of thirowiag naway their votes upon this ltlltifyms, to candidate. ' It is high thime that this foolish talk about tue de st- truction of the IUnion to be elflcted fy Filllniore, Boitler, llBrooksl, IItnpilrey, Marlshall, Atchison, eStringfillow and tile strlers in case of Col. Fremont's election were stolpped. We warn Mr. Filumnoce and to all ot ners who entertain his treascnable ideas nand luiposes to, beware to what lengtil they piraceed." Tile exaslperliuon on the Ipart of the Republican journals is boris dsr of spt maing hesdwsy against lMr. Fillisne.
