THE WILLIAHS NEWS 5 LOCALS Dr. A. G. Rounseville wag a Flag staff visitor Tuesday. Little Anna Barney has been quite sick this week with scarla tina. Remember, Dr. Pratt, the optic ian, will be here Tuesday and Wed nesday, September 10 and 11. . Engineer Secor was in from the Grand Canyon railroad survey Tuesday. II. J.Gray and C. C. Hutchinson, . two prominent sheep men, spent Monday in town. You will find the best Havana cigar at the Cabinet. It is reported that the Santa Fe company is to build a $2-5,000 club house in Winslow. Martin Buggeln, proprietor of the Bright Angel hotel, spent the first of the week in the city. Dr. Pratt, "Arizona's leading op tician," will be at Grand Canyon hotel Tuesday and Wednesday, September 10 and 11. Fred Twitty came up from Pres- cott last Sunday for a short visit with home folks in the city. Hon. Henry F. Ashurst is spend ing the week in California on busi ness and pleasure combined. Mr. F. O. Poison, of the firm of Poison Bros., left for a two-weeks' business trip in the east last Mon day. Most any of the best brands of cigars or liquors you can find at the Cabinet. Mr. John Page came in from the canyon country and left for Flag staff Tuesday evening, returning again Wednesday. The Santa Fe lias purchased ground in Los Angeles for a fine new railway hospital. Work will be begun very soon. Jese Boyce, after a most pleas ant summer vacation, returned to Los Angeles again last Monday to resume his school duties. Moore, representing the Red lands (California) Daily Facts, was a canyon visitor this week in the interests of his paper. T. A. Haydcn, representing the Singer Manufacturing Co., has been looking up business in his line in the city this week. Mrs. J. D. Raudebaugh, who was quite ill the first of the week, is again able to attend to her duties at the telephone exchange. Dr. Pratt makes regular trips to our city and all his work is fully warranted. You are perfectly safe in consulting - him in regard to your eyes. Capt. John Ha nee, the world-re nowned guide of the Grand Canyon, was in the city this week and was a pleasant caller at the News office. Miss Carrie Geyer and cousin, Miss Nachtrieb, will leave next Tuesday for California, where they exjiect to spend the coming winter. Henry P. Barber went to Flag staff on Tuesday's No. 2 on busi ness connected with his purchase of the Last Chance mine in the can yon district. If you are satisfied with any kind of a cigar, then buy it at the first place you come to. But if you want the best Havana goods, go to the Cabinet for them. Mrs. R. J. Arey left last Saturday for Los Angeles, having received word of the illness of her sister, Mrs. Marion Miller, who is now lo cated in that city. Misses Susie B. Johnson and Jennie Bay less, accompanied by Johnnie Hill, returned last Satur day evening from a pleasant outing at the Grand Canyon. W. A. Nevin has again resumed his duties as general manager of the Santa Fe west of Albuquerque. A. G. Wells, who has been acting n that capacity during Mr.Nevin's llness, has again taken up the duties of general superintendent. Thurber, Mrs. Martin Buggeln and children, Diletta and Edna, left last Monday for a two weeks' visit at Los Angeles and other California points. On last Sunday Mr. Otto Nagiller accompanied his daughter, Ida, as far as Ash Fork on her way to Oakland, Cal., where she goes to again enter the school for the deaf and dumb at that place. Fennell, general man ager of the Val Verde Copper Co., passed through the city on Wed nesday's No. 2. Mr. Fennell goes east on an extended business trip in connection with the operation of the company's new smelter at Val Verde. Mr. Geo. W. Mathews is rushing to completion his new store build ing and expects to he doing busi ness in the same within the next two weeks. The fire was a hard blow to Mr. Mathews but he is again with the procession on the fair to road success. W. S. Melick, editor of the Pasa dena NewB, was a pleasant caller at the News office last Saturday. Mr Melick had just returned from a trip to the snake dance, and after taking in the Grand Canyon, spent the time between trains renewing old friendship with Mayor Pyle. Mr. L. H. Tolfree, a citizen of Flagstaff and a hotel man well known all over the Santa Fe, has been in Bisbee for several days, vis iting Naco and Douglas in the meantime. It is known that Mr. Tolfree is figuring on the manage ment of the Copper Queen hotel at this point, which is nearing com pletion. The Copper Queen people would make no mistake in placing this fine hotel in his hands. Range News. MONEY TO LOAN U. S. Engineers Civil and Mining Engineer U.S. Deputy Mineral Surveyor Railroad and Mining Surveys The Santa Fe Pacific railroad company transferred the land de partment offices of the company from Los Angeles to Topeka, Sep tember 1. The offices were form erly located at Albuquerque and were removed to Los Angeles when the transfer was made from the At lantic & Pacific company to the Santa Fe Pacific company, and un der the present move the offices will be consolodated with the land department of Ihe Santa Fe com pany. Journal-Miner. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Graham left Monday, last, for Redlands, California, where they will make their future home. Having been residents of Williams for the past seven years they have formed many friendships which were not easily cast aside. For some time Mr. Graham has been in poor health, and it is because of this that the change was deemed necessary. Robert, a son, has been located in Redlands for some time, and has been very anxious to have nis par ents join him there. While a host of friends here regret that they were compelled to make this change, they join the News in wishing them success and happiness in their new home. John H. Sterling, of Williams, left some time last week for British Columbia. He is not expected to return. John has long been a resi dent of this section. He has been considered an honest and desirable citizen, but during the past year or two women and wine have caused him to lead a fast life. He recently bought his partner's interest in a band of sheep, which were heavily mortgaged, and being what he thought hopelessly in debt, he bor rowed or gave checks, against which he had no bank deposit, and by this means raised several hundred dollars, aud skipped. The action of Mr. Sterling was a great surprise to his friends, and the majority of them are congratulating themselves that Sterling did not ask them for arger loans. Coconino Sun.
