Officers Jones and Campbell were par ticuiarly active last night, aud when Po lice Judge Ensminger bustled into the court room this morning he found a long list of vago, eta, awaiting the action of his judicial scalping knife. John Veney and Win. Olive, who have been playmates for the past twelve days, and have been loating around the capital city.since yesterday morning, constituted the haul of Officer Owens, and with the men were brought iu their bundle of ciothes and a bicycle lamp which Mr. Olive had appropriated to better enable him to Hud hid way along his darkeaing career. The testimony of the men in question was given with sighs and faltering as though the position was new to them, and brought out the fact that Veney hadn't stolen anything. Olive, however, admitted his theft, and was lined $5, which he couldn't pay, and was com mitted to jaiL Two colored gentlemen were then called to the stand, charged with disor derly conduct. Their uames were Henry Edmon and Jake Morrison. Their wit nesses had not arrived, however, and the case was continued until tomorrow morn ing. Then came the list of eleven vagrants that were placed to the credit of the of ficial sagacity of Policemen Jones and Campbell. C. E. Bohannan, who is aged seven teen, had been guilty of waiting for a train at the liock island junction. He was from Missouri and was tired of Kan sas civil2iation. He wanted to get back to the land of pawpaws. He had been working for the Santa Fe at Argentine on the tracks, and was here on his way to tih Joseph. He was excused on prom ise that he find Missouri as soon as pos sible. Columbus A. Goosey was next called. Columbus is only sixteen years of age and lives in Topeka. He and his step mother do not agree on the suffrage ques tion, and he has been compelled to seek among strangers for comfort. He had been west, but in his ramblings had found himself at home once more. In his frantic endeavor to get away from the "old lady" he had ran straight into a gang of his co-laborers at the Itock Island junction, and as the otiicer did not give him time to explain matters the judge was compelled to listen to his tale this morning, and after a fatherly lec ture discharged him. He will leave for Abilene as aoon as possible. J. F. and W. JN Boyd, two Tennessee youths of 16 and lb years respectively, were called next and told about how their father had compelled them to leave their sunny southern home aud get down to doing their own rustling for daily grub. Judge Ensminger concluded the best thing to do would be to let them keep oa rustling so he discharged them with the provisiou that they get out of town as fast as possible. The next case to engage the attention of the court was that of Yon Youson, who "haf bane een dis Cantra saxtane mon," and was charged with having no visible means of support. After several minutes study in dialect it was discov ered that lon had to his account $'J.di). "That's more money than I've got," said the judge, and discharged him. Hans Abrahamson was called next on the same charge. He had a dollar and was discharged. Fred Olson, who is a brother to Ole, had the same charge against him, plead ed guilty and was allowed to join his countrymen. They were all three from Chicago and were on their way to Junc tion City where they expected to get work in the harvest lield. Thos. McBride, an Arizona miner who had been east aud was trying to get home, then sauntered in with his blond mustache and curly hair and pleaded' guilty to being penniless. He told a straight story and was discharged. Charley McFarren, another boy plead ed guilty to vagrancy and was released with a reprimand. lhomas Winters, who ia also a vagrant, was discharged after promising to leave town. Paul Herrell, a boy of thirteen, with short pantaloons, gray eyes and no par ticular conception of gentility, was called, discharged as a vagraut, and held over until tomorrow morning on suspi cion of having been implicated in the Payne shoe store robbery. He is the boy that Doyle says gave him the shoes to sell. The daily grind having been disposed of, the slot machines cases, of which there are four, were called and imme diately continued, being reset for Fri day morning. Of course the witnesses and defendants who had been summoned were mad about it, but that didn't make any difference to the placid judge. The case of Mrs. T. Hair, who was tried yesterday morning on the charge t f allaying illegal thirst at so much per al lay, was dismissed last evening, the evi dence not being sufficient to convict NEW COKPOIIATIONS.
