THE TOPEKA DAILY STATE JOTTBITAI-TUESDAY EVCIIPTQ. APMt. 14, 1CC3. 1 At Worth of Ladies9 Ready toVear Garments, Dry Goods and Furnishing Goods Less Ttesa Mc mM dte n the HDcdL Slip Now, Ladies, I want to tell you something. On the 26th day of February I left Topeka for New York and the eastern markets,: this was fully a month later than I usually made the trip. I had reasons for going late, I was fully aware of the critical financial situation the eastern manufacturers were placed in, and I had this in mind when I left. While I knew the situation was extremely bad I had no idea it was as bad as it was. Merchants who had placed large orders with the manufacturers for their spring trade, before the financial crisis came, canceled them, leaving the factories greatly overstocked, they had to shut down their plants, lay off their help. These factories had to get rid of and realize the cash on this merchandise before they could resume work, the result was, they actually begged me to take what I wanted at my own price, they were in sad straights and must have money. You must appreciate the opportunity this afforded me. I knew well the financial situation here in my own home, and that any saving I could make my own customers would be appreciated to the fullest extent. I stayed seven weeks among these factories, working hard every day of the time, buying only the most desirable this spring merchandise. When I tell you I bought muslin underwear, for instance, at less than one-third the price I paid last year, you may not believe it, but every word is the truth. I want to tell you I bought Ladies' Suits, Ladies' Skirts, Ladies' Wrappers, Ladies' Waists, Ladies' Kimonos, etc., at from one-third to one-half what I paid for the same quality garments last year, in fact, the whole $35,000 purchase would have cost me $75,000 last Spring. I realized when I made this big $35,000 buy of this spring's most desirable merchandise, you ladies of Topeka and all Kansas, would be quick to take advantage of the astounding bargains that I will offer to you when I open the doors on this great sale. , Ladies, you may think during some time in your life you bought merchandise cheap, but I want to say to you that never before in your whole life did you buy goods so cheap as you can during this sale. I have had sales before many of them, but I want to say to you frankly that of all my previous sales, none of them ever compared to this one. I borrowed every dollar I could, to take advantage of the opportunities offered me to buy this $35,000 worth of merchandise and I must realize the cash as quickly as possible to pay back this bor rowed money, and I know that when you realize what a big savings this sale means to you, you will be quick to respond. TOMORROW MORNING AT BIGHT O'eLOGK Read my prices, read every one of them, there's not one quoted here but what is at least y2 less than you would have to pay in other stores in Kansas.
