S. Doctor drifted into the city this morning and announced that he was a conqueror. Of course he is the ac knowledged master of Hoffman, and now he claims title to the welterweight wrestling championship of the United States. He has not defeated Dick Wolf, of Kansas City, but claims that he will do it tonight before the members of the Topeka Athletic association. Wolf and Doctor will meet tonight. Both want to be declared supreme in the wrestling game in this settion of the country. Wolf never t0 been pinned to the mat and claims tftit Doc tor won't have any more luck tbn any other grappler. The winner of this match will be able to secure a large number of matches in Topeka and in more than a dozen towns within a radius of 100 miles from To peka. Both want this privilege, but be lieve that defeat in this match will mean elimination. Neither wants this to result, and for that reason the mat game tonight will be shown in all its forms and the fans will be given the best treat of the season. A long list of preliminaries has been arranged and every one will cause the fans to get up on their toes and stay there until the finish. Jack Woods has returned as the prodigal son and will go on with some good young man of his class. This probably will be the last appearance of the Pauline wrestler fighter, as he will leave soon for the balmy shores of the Pacific coast. Mr. Hulbert is a grad uate of Washburn college. The board of public welfare has done much, for Kansas City. It has a public office, gives free legal aid. has a factory inspection department, and does a usetul work generally. IH-. Thomas Ii. Brunk, also of Kansas City, will follow .Mr. Hulbert with a.i address on "The- Now Civilization and What it Means." Dr. Brunk is a grad uate of Cornell. He taught economics and chemistry at Chicago university, ar.tl is considered a man of great ability, jie is a leading spirit in things progressive. There will be a number of excellent musical numbers on the program. The program is being arranged by the Link club, a local organization. It is hoped by the club that a move may be started for the establishment of a public welfare board in Topeka similar to that in Kan sas Citv, Mo. The general public is in vited to the meeting admission will be free. C. A. Cain, of the State Journal will act as chairman of the meeting. SMOKY PITTSBURG. Interesting Data Given in St. IiOuis Ijecture. St. Louis, Mo., March 7. Dr. R. C. Benner, of the department of indus trial research of the University of Pittsburg, told the City club here that smoke and soot are factors in the high cost of living in Pittsburg. Personal efficiency, he said, is im paired because men will not work so well in the gloom as in clear light. The statuary in the Carnegie library in Pittsburg, he added, is white on one side and black on the other because the wind always blows the smoke from the same direction. The total amount of soot each year is 116,000. 000 tons, enough to cover 225 square miles with two coats of black paint. Smoke, he added, has increased the death rate from pneumonia. Five hundred women. members of the Sedgwick County Equal Suffrage As sociation, put twenty candidates for city commissioners and one candidate for mayor through a grilling series of questions at the city hall chamber yesterday. Each candidate was al lowed five minutes to tell why he ought to be nominated at the primary March 2 4. The explanations of quali fications were interrupted often with queries of the women. All of the candidates heartily favor equal suffrage, they told the new vot ers and some reviewed their efforts in the campaign for the women last fall. WITH ANOTHER MAN. A telegram from St. Louis started the sheriff after his prisoner last night. He will return to morrow. ROBBINS FOUND GUILTY I Of Keeping IJqnor Nuisance at East Twelfth Street Barn. A jury in the second division of the district court found that Frank L. Robbins, a liveryman at 113 East Twelfth street, has been making a business of wholesaling liquors, and adjudged him guilty of keeping a liquor nuisance. Sentence has been deferred. During the hearing a government license was produced which had been issued to Robbins. In explanation the defendant declared he had been in formed that he could not use his de livery wagon for the purpose of haul ing liquor for others without the gov- Elizabeth says: "I am troubled with a constant headache which also affects my eyes. My breath is awful, as I have a severe case of catarrh of the head and throat." Answer: I receive daily hundreds of let ters from people who have suffered as vou do and who have been cured with the following prescription: Make a wash by mixing one-half teaspoonful of Vilant powder, which you can purchase from any druggist in 2 oz. packages, and and to this one pint of warm water, use this in the nostrils daily to thoroughly cleanse them. Answer: For several years I have pre scribed plain yellow minyol as superior to anything known for the treatment of dis eased scalp. Get it in four-ounce jars with full directions. This can be easily overcome by the tise of three-grain hypo-nuclane tablets, which can be had from any drug gist in sealed cartons with full directions for taking. When the blood is enriched bv- the use of these tablets your weight will increase, the color will come bad into your face and lips, and it will improve your general system so that you will be come fctrong and healthy. "Edna" writes: "I suffer with rheuma tism all the time and I shall be very glad if you can tell me something to relieve me." Answer: I can give you a prescriptioT which will not only relieve, but will cure your rheumatism. This is my favorite remedy and from the number of letters received from people who have used it proves its value in curing rheumatism. The following is made by mixing well, taking a teaspoonful at meal times and again before retiring: Comp. essence cardiol 1 oz-: comp. fluid balmwort, 1 os.; Ad vertisement.J syrup sarsaparilla comp., 5 oz. ; iodide of potassium, 2 drams; wine of colchicum one-half ounce; sodium salicylate, t dram.3. ... "Morris" asks: "I have suffered with a chronic cough for almost a year, and catch a fresh cold every few weeks. Noth ing the doctor gives me helps, so I write to you." Answer: you need a thorough laxative cough syrup, one that not only relieves but surely drives it from the system. The following regularly used will cure any curable cougli or cold promptly. Obtain a oz. bottle of essence methol-axene, mix it with a home-made sugar syrup or honey as per directions on bottle. ... "Anxious B." writes: "I have in recent years been threatened witu appendicitis, but would never consent to an operation. Indigestion, constipation and sedentary habits cause me much suffering. Farmer's Wife asks: "Will you please tell me how to overcome obesty?" Answer: Obesity is burdensome. Exces sive fat on the human body is unnatural and frequently results seriously. Answer: The best remedy to relieve and cure chronic constipation is called three grain sulpherb tablets made from sul phur, cream of tartar and herb medicines. The witness fail ed to identify Robbins as the person from whom he had purchased the liquor, but was positive he had gone to the Robbins barn and bought it there, and the same day it was duly delivered in the Robbins wagon.
