A report has been circulated over Topeka to the effect that the Topeka Railway company was improving Its old Second street power station with the idea of furnishing "Juice" for the street car company. Then, according to the rumors, the Edison company would sell out to the city as the plan of municipal ownership worked out. A. M. Patten, assistant general manager of the Illinois Traction com pany in charge of the Topeka property, laughed when confronted with the story today. - "That is the funniest thing I have heard in years," Mr. Patten said. "It is ridiculous. We have been cutting down part of our stack in the old plant because a cracked iron band around the brick coping had made it danger ous for pedestrians."' "And how about the story that you have rebuilt your track to this old plant?" he was asked. "We aid that Decause we contem plate making this plant a secondary shops," he said. The boarder, William Pruejos, said that the revolver was lying on the bed and was accidentally discharged when Miss Parsons started to remove it. He is held by the police. War Insurance Piles Up. Washington, Oct. 8. The bureau of war risk insurance today announced it had written insurance to date ag gregating $4,324,541, and had pending policies calling for $5,197,600. They enunciated the prin ciples of the party in a clear, concise and forceful manner. WILL CLOSE HIGH SCHOOL. Parsons Teachers Coming to Big To peka Meeting in November. Parsons, Kan., Oct 8. At a meeting of the board of education, it was voted to close the high school on November 12 and 13 to permit the teachers to attend the sessions of the State Teach ers' association at Topeka. November 12 to 14. The plan used last year will be followed, namely, that the instruc tors who attend will be given full pay for the two days they do not teach. MANHATTAN MAN KILLED. Dead Light Wires Come to Life and Man Dies Instantly. Manhattan, Kan., Oct 8. While he was working on some dead wires in an electric light plant at Waconda Springs, Joe Stager, formerly of this city, was electrocuted when some one turned on the juice. Tucker at Meade. Hutchinson. , Kan., Oct. 8. George Allen, 58 years old, was arrested on a charge of murder .in the first degree on the finding og a coroner's Jury Wednesday for the murder of E. H. Tucker two days ago near Meade, Kan. Allen, who was released on a bond of 82,000, will be given a pre liminary hearing Friday. MARRIED A THIEF. White Plains, N. Y., Oct. 8. A suit to annul the marriage of Elizabeth Frances De Majo Durazzo, ssiter of John H. Hanan, millionaire shoe man ufacturer, to-the Duke Don Arturo De Majo Durazzo of Italy, has been filed in court here ' by counsel for the Duchess Durazzo. The duchess, . whose age the mar riage license gave as 47, nine years her husband's senior, alleged that the duke was a convicted thief, sought by the French government, when she be came his wife last February. The duke, met Miss Hanan in 1912 when she was cruising with relatives in the Mediterranean. Their engage ment was announced last January and the wedding irt New Tork City was a society event.
