- Word has been received by Mr. and
Mrs. M. F. McDonald, 627 West street,
of the safe arrival overseas of their
son, Charles J. McDonald, Company B,
139th infantry. He was sent to tamp
Doniphan last October. From there he
was sent to Camp Merrltt, N. J., and
sailed for France July 9.
COURSE Mi HYGIENE
Home Nursing Feature of Red Cross
Begins Next Week.
, The third course In hygiene and
home nursing to be given hy the To
peka chapter of the American Red
Cross will begin next week. Mrs. H.
Bredel, chairman of the commitee on
home nursing, announced today that
the registration would be Thursday
from 11 a. m. to 6:30 p. m. The reg
istration and the lectures will all be
given at the T. W. C. A. The course
consists of instruction in taking care
of the sick in the homes. It Is intend
ed to provide adequate care for pa
tients where trained nursing is not
available. The Red Cross and the
army have taken such large numbers
of trained nursesjthat there are not
sufficient to handle the work in any
community and the Red Cross has
established this course of training for
the women in every city that they
may be able to give good care and
proper treatment. The course does
not prepare anyone to go outside
their own home for nursing work.
During the registration ' Thursday
the hours for the classes will be ar
ranged to suit the convenience of the
greate3t number.
