Campbell has ldnriw- f,i..,.-. the following additional ifo Z . as to the capacity, etc., of the new smelter tor the Goldtree mine. The furnace has a capacity for reduclne 4,500 pound of ore per day, which, on an nvfir 1.1 a-, -iwi vium uuDUt ont ton of bullion from the Goldtree ore It is built after the style of the Patter, sou reverberator- furnace. The two hara of bullion of winch we made mention in The Citizen- of yesterday were from -100 pound of ore. One bar was left at the smelter, and of course the remaining mnitc was thrown off; hence the bullion produced is not hi proportion to what would be from a larger amount. Mr. Campbell is sanguine that the property no-.v stands on a paying basis. He will return to the mines the coming week and start 1 up the works, and let new contracts nir the further development of the mines. Tho group of mines embraced in the Goldtree Company, consisting of the Hard Case, Campbell, Goldtree, Cora, Laura, and Smuggler, are all promising mines. Tbo expense of running the new smelter will be light. Two men can raise enough ore to keep the smeller going. The bullion which was produced from the .G-.ldtrse was assayed by Snlazar & Kabn, giving 117.5 ounces in silver, valued at $151 95, ami estimating the lead at ?100 per ton gives a total value oi 251.95 per ton. The lto:ul (J notion. In discussing the road question it is really astonishing that so many of our citizens who should be well no-tied as to the lay of of the country differ so widelv as to tht I . . roads should be built. Sectiona nter- ests bomelimes warp tho ninins of those professing to know the bet routes but in the discussion now going on it would seem thfit no such interests ex ist and that each one expresses his honest opinion. We hae no doubt but that the men appointed for the purpose of determining the liest routes will do their duty, and that iu the end all will be for the best. The judgment of the best men is ofien at fault when the surveyor runs his lines and deter mines the grades and distances, so that that if those who have volunteered their opinions have erred they did it innocently, believing that what they advocated was for the best interest of of the county. There is, however, one feature of ihe road question of Pima county upon which all agree, it is that mauy important improvemeut3 in our road s stem should be made as son as possible. County Otflceii. There seems to be a number of men in Pima county who would jml object to being elected :o the offices of Sher iff, Recorder, and Treasurer. Whore there are so many good men who will condescend to accept office, we can hardly fail to slect competent men for the places. Pima county nw rep resents more than half the wealth ami perhaps more tl.an half the population ot the Territory; hence it it very im portant that gotd men shold be select ed to fill the varius county ofllcet. It will not be long betore we sha'l have a full list of candidates in the field. Clmrcli Sorvice Methodist Episcopal service will 1ms held in the new church to-morrow evening, beginning at 8 o'clock. It is t" be hoped that a large concourse of our citizens will attend, as well to hear tho interesting, learned, and Christian discotir-e as to contribute to so worthy an object of charity. Dr. II. B. Tiiekh arc some fine specimens" of ore on exhibition at Pierson & Co.'s saloon on Congress street. Among the lot we noticed a very fine specimen of gold rock from the Imperial mine in Old Hat District. The gold seems to be in clusters from the size of a pin head up to a pennyweight. A few tons of such rock would satisfy our desires for some time to come. Jcst received at Warren's a car load of California patatoes, Irish beau tics, sweet sixteen, large, smooth, plump and rosey This is the finest lot of potatoes ever brought to Tucson, and the demand for them is so groat that the railroad Company are about to put down a double track in order to keep Warren supplied. The site selected for the Egyptian obelisk, which has arrived at New York, is on a natural knoll of ground in front of the Metropolitan Mus:nui of A't, C nai Park Ilr. Tanner. It is very natural for ncople to look at ihe course pursued by Dr. Tanner, iu lm undertaking to live 40 days without food, as foolish. Yet when we come to examine into the facts, it may not he so foolish after all. Dr. ; Tauner is an old hand at tlie fasting htisiuuss. He is a well-known char acter in Minnesota, where he has re peatedly tasted his capacity for fast ing. He had an unii3iial tendency to ; aeeiimuhte fat when giving away to h'ts appt-t lie, which le i him 10 limit lit3 diet, by which means h- roHiic-il his fioh from 200 to 100 pounds." It has long been a hobby of Tanner's to abstain from food, which he believes the surest edy for many budlly ail ments. He has repeatedly unstained from rood a number of days at a Unit-, and at one time he is reporte 1 to have fasted 42 days. If Dr. Tanner suc ceedc in accomplishing his great un dertaking, he will have done more for science and the good of mankind than is at first apparent. He doos not claim more endurance than other men, but lie days he owes it to his will power, his determination to perforin a certain thing. If a sick man makes un his mind that he is going to die. he gener ally does die; but if, on tho contrary, he is determined to live, it roe a long ways towards putting him on his feet again. There are numerous instances of sick persons whom the doctors have gtven up to die, stating that they c uld live but a few days or a few hours, when such person had nn object in living a little longer in order to see a dear friend or arrange some important business matter before departing this life, aud in very many cases they have done whu'. they set out ta do, and have lived many days or even months after the doctors said they must die. If a starving man makes up his mind that he cannot live longer than from seven to nine days without food, he is apt to Cite in that time, but if Dr. Tanner demonstrates the fact that a man may ! liv 40 days without food, then it may he many others who brace up for the fight against giving up may unabridgo the old seven and nine day theory. Wc shall await the result of Dr. Tan ner's fasting with interest. A Stcu Ounnnl. There is no longer any croakers 'eft in Tucson; they have either shut up or left for parts unknown. All our mining camp are prospering beyond anything look ed for. Old Hat is just coining to the front, the Owl Head and Amole Dis tricts are attracting a good deal of at tention, and more or less money is being invested in them. Out at the Ksperatiza they have done a large amount of work in a quiet way, while the prospects In Oro Blanco, Arivaca ami BLo:ivari never looked better Even out in the Santa Ritas, where there has been " a cloud hanging over them " for so long, they have lately taken a start forward, and under new and better management we tru-t they may bring the district out. While out in Patagonia and Tombstone we already have live camps which are growing rapidly and will continue to prow for a long time to come. Globe also is a live camp, and it only re quires a little energetic work on the part of our merchants to secure the trade of that district. While all olher districts, thirty-three in number, are growing and improving.
