Nfcw Yew, May SO, 1837. Dr. D. Jayne?Dear Sir?Having made use of your Carminative Balsam in my family, and finding it to be admirably adapted to the complaints for which it is intended, i take pleasure in recommend ing it to the use of my friends and the public gene rally, believing that those who are afflictcd with any of these complaints will find relief in (he use of this valuable medicine. JONA. GOING. D. D-, President of Granville College, Ohio. Woodstowk, Salam co., N. J., May, 1837. From a long acquaintance with Dr. Jayne's Car minative Balsam, I believe it to be a very happy combination, and a useful medicino in many com plaints which almoet constantly occur in our coun try, such as Bowel Affections of cbildien, Cholic, Cramps, Looseness, Dyspeptic, Disorders of the Stomach, Coughs^ and Affections of tho Breast, to gether with alt those diseases attended with sour ness of the Stomach; and believe that physicians will often find it a useful remedy in their hands, and one that is proper for domestic use, and can be put into the hands of persons at large with perfect safety. WM. BACON, M. D. Baltimore, March 27, 1833. Dr. Jayne?Dear sir?You aak me what proofs I meet with of the efficacy of your Carminative. I can safely say that 1 never prescribed a medicine for Bowel Complaints that has given me so much satis faction, and my patients so speedy and perfect relief as thi3. Whenever introduced into a family, it be comes a standing remedy for those ailments, and is called for again and again, which I think a pretty good proof of its efficacy and usefulness. In the Summer Complaint of children it has frequently ap peared to snatch the little victims, as it were, from the grave. " It saved the life of my child, and of such and such a child," I have repeatedly heard said. In dysenteric affections of adults, I have time and again seen it act like a charm, and give perma nent relief in a few hours, I may say In a few min utes. In fine, it is a valuable medicine, and no fam ily should be without it. Respectfully, M. L. KNAPP, M. D., Late Physician to the Baltimore Dispensary, and Agent for the Maryland Vaccine Institution. Bridgkton, N. J., July 19, 1836. This may certify that I have used Doctor Jayne's Carn-inative Balsam very extensively in Bowel Com plaints, and have not the least hesitation in declaring it superior to any preparation that I have met u ith, for the relief of those diseases. WILLIAM STEELLING, M. D., Physician to the Cumberland N.J. Almshouse. WORMS 1 WORMS 11 WORMS ! 11 Of all diseases to which children are exposed, none are so fatal to them as worms. Unfortunately, children are seldom free from them, and as they imitate tho symptoms of almost every other com plaint, tney often produce alarming effects wilhott iioing suspected. Worms are not only a cause of disease themselves, but by their irritation aggravate all other diseases, waudering from one part of the body to another, winding themselves into large balls, and obstructing the bowels, and frequently the throat, causing convulsions, and too often death. The best remedy ever yet known is Dr. JAYNE'S TONIC VERMIFUGE, which is perfectly safe, and so pleasant that children will not refuse to take it. It effectually destroys WORMS; neutralizes acidity or sourness of the stomach, increases appetite, and acts as a general aud permanent Tonic, and is, therefore, exceedingly beneficial in Intermittent and Remittent Fevers, In digestion, &c., and is accitain and permanent cure for FEVER and AGUE. It not only destroys Worms, and invigorates the whole system, but it dissolves and carries off the su perabundant slime or mucous so prevalent in the stomach and bow els of children, more especially ol those in bad health. This mucous forms the bed or nest in which worms produce their young; and by removing it?it is impossible for worms to remain in the body. It is harmless in its effects on the system, and the health of the patient is always improved by its use, even when no Worms are discovered. Numerous certificates of its usefulness have been received, which the proprietor docs not consider necessary to publish ; yet to give the reader an idea of its vermi fuge powers, he will mention a few cases. He gave it to liis little nephew, not four years old, and in a few days he discharged upwards of ninety large worms. He also gave it to his daughter, then about three years old, when it brought away thirty worms in one night. Josiah Thompson, near Salem, N J., administered this Vermifuge to a child between two and three years old, and says that in a few days she discharged one hundred and twenty-seven large Worms. Mr. Joseph A. Lents, of the Penn Township Sa vings Institution, in this city, gave it to one of his children, and says that after the sixth dose it brought away about fifty Worms at once, five and six iuches long. Mr. Ferdinand Woodruff used two bottles of this Vermifuge for DYSPEPSIA, and in the course of two weeks discharged upwards ot thirty pieces of TAPE WORM, and was thereby perfectly cured. Another gentleman of this city had it administered to his little daughter, about three years old, when she had a number of discharges from her bowels, composed entirely of little white thread worms. He says, "they came away from her, not only by hun dreds, but 1 may truly say, by thousands, separately and in solid balls as large as hickory nuts, composed entirely of dead worms. AL80? In the yeaj 1838, I was attacked with that disagree able complaint the Dyspepsia, which so affected me that 1 could not take a particle of food, without the most unpleasant and uncomfortable sensations in my chest, head and bowels. My chest was so sore that I I could not bear the slightest pressure without giving me pain. My health was most miserable; many physicians told me they thought I was in the consump tion, and that if I Jid not give up my business, and change climate, I could live but a short time. 1 tried every thing in the shape of medicine, and consulted the mo3t skilful physicians, but found no permanent relief. I became discouraged, gloomy, sad, and sick of life ; and, probably, ere this, should have been in my grave, had I not fell in with your precious medicine. A friend of mine, who had been sick of the same complaint, advised me to try your pills; but having tried most other medicines without obtaining any relief, had but little faith that your pills would be of benefit to me ; but, at his earnest solici tation, I procured a box and commenced taking them. The first box produced little or no effect, and I be gan to despond, for fear that your medicine would prove like others 1 have taken; but my friends argued that one was not a fair trial, and 1 purchased a sec ond, and before I had taken the whole box I began to experience a change! the pain in my chest began to be less painful, and my food did not distress me so much as formerly. I went on taking thein until I had taken six boxes, and my Dyspepsia was gone, and my ex pectation of an early death vanished, and I felt like a " new creature." I was then, and am now healthy man. I have never since been troubled with the Dyspepsia. I have administered your pills to the members of my family, and to my friends, and in ail cases with good success. The constitution of man was their study, in order to discover the seat of his mala dies, and source of all his corporeal misery. To al leviate the drooping spirits, to inspire confidence to the desponding mind, and ease the sorrowed heart, all the arts and arguments of their philosophy and powers of reason were turned. Among the varied branches of worldly learning, there can be none equal in importance to that of the Healing Art, for the soul in a diseased body may be aptly compared to the martyr in his dungeon, which retains its real value, but has lost its usefulness. Many or most dis eases have their origin in an impure or impoverished state of the blood, and this being a fluid sui generis, extending to the most minute ramifications of the system, the subtle poison is infused, and the seed being sown brings forth fruit in abundance; in one instance, causing a swelling of the glands, resulting in Scrofula or King's Evil?in another, ossification of the arteries, or turning them into bone ; also, rheu mathm, and disease of the heart, cutaneous erup tions, diseases of the liver, and a variety of other maladios, which soon hurry their victim to the grave. Sands's Sarsaparilla, a purely vegetable medicine, which is the result of yeara of labor and chemical research, in bringing it to its present state of perfec tion, will arrest, and, if timely administered, per fectly cure these diseases, by purifying the vital fluid, regenerating the constitution, dispelling diseased action, giviug tone to the general energies of the sys tem, and enabling the blood to course on freely, and bringing with it health and renewed vigor. The following are extracts from letters recently received, and specimens of those coming to hand daily: Gallatin, Tenn., Feb. 27, 1844. Messrs. Jl. B. Sf D. Sands? Gentlemen: I have just received a letter from my father in Russellville, Ky., who wishes to purchase some of your Sarsaparilla. I have no doubt he can be the means of selling a great deal, as it has per formed a wonderful cure in his family. Last De cember I was sent for to see my sister before she died, she having been in poor health for some two or three years, and at the time I went over to see her, she was at the point of death with the scarlet fever and a cancerous affection of the bowels, from which her physician thought she could not possibly recover. I carried over with me a bottle of your Sarsaparilla, and with the consent of her physician, she com menced taking it that night I remained with her three days, and left her rapidly improving. Her husband sent a boy home with me for more of the Sarsaparilla. I sent one dozen bottles, which I be lieve will effect an entire cure. My father writes me to that effect, and wishes through me to procure an agency for selling your valuable medicine in that neighborhood. Respectfully, J- M. OWENS. New York, Dec. ], 1843. Messrs. Sands? Gentlemen: Parental feelings induce us to make the following statement of facts in relation to the important cure of our little daughter, wholly effected by the use of Sands'3 Sarsaparilla. For nearly three years she was afflicted with a most inveterate erup tion on the body, which at times was so bad, connect ed with internal disease, that we despaired of her life. The complaint commenced in Ihe roots of the hair, and gradually spread until the whole head was eveloped, and then it attacked the ears, and ran down the neck, and continuing to increase, until it covered the most of the body. It commenced with a small pimple or pustule, from which water at fir3t dis charged; this produced great itching and burning; then matter or pus formed, the skin cracked and bled, and the pus discharged freely. The sufferings of the child were so great as almost wholly to pre vent natural rest, and the odor from the discharges so offensive, as to make it difficult to pay that jxirtic ular attention the nature of the case required. The disease was called Scald Head and general Salt Rheum. We tried various remedies, with little ben efit, and considered her case almost beyond the reach of medicine; but from the known virtue of your Sarsaparilla, we were induced to give it a trial. Before the first bottle was all used, we perceived an improvement in the appearance of the eruption ; but the change was so rapid for the better, that we could scarcely give credence to the evidence of our own eyes. We continued its use for a few weeks, and the result is a perfect cure. To parents we would say?If you have children sufleiing with any disease of the skin, use Sands's Sarsaparilla. With feelings of gratitude and respect, we are yours, &c. EL1HU tii SARAH SOUTHMAYD, No. 95 Madison street. Elizabethtown, N. J., Dcc. ii, 1843. Messrs. Sands?Gentlemen: It is with heartfelt gratitude for jour kindness to me that I make a pub lic acknowledgment of the benefit 1 have received from your Sarsaparilla. 1 have been for many years alllictcd with a cancer in tha breast, and for four years it was, as 1 thought, incurable; it spread very fast, so that it had nearly covered the whole breast, and for many weeks I was so reduced with the loss of blood and the pain of the wound, that I was un able to turn myself in bed and my sufferings during the whole winter were more than I can tell. With the advice of my friends, I called two of the most eminent physicians of the place, who recommended your preparation of Sarsaparilla, knowing of nothing that would be as likely to help me; which advice 1 readily received, and before 1 had taken one bottle, I found a change in my feeliugs which induced me to take more, and when I had taken the third bottle, 1 was like another porson both in health and strength. I have taken your preparation since last March, and although the wourfd is not entirely healed, it is in a very favorable state, and 1 believe it will bo the means, ultimately, of my entire cure; and that the alllictcd may all find the relief which it alone can give, is the wish of their and your friend, EUNICE WOODRUFF. Dr. McNAIR'S ACOUSTIC OIL.?Those deaf from iufancy often receive, in a most miraculous manner, their hearing when they least expect it, by some trifling accident or event, which shows them how easil) they might have much sooner had their hearing, and saved themselves and their friends the pain of conversing in a loud tone, without pleasure, or of being neglected and shunned, to avoid that dis tress which is felt mutually by t>.e deaf person and his hearers. How sacred a duty, therefore, it is that we use all necessary means to remove such an affliction, and enjoy the social qualities implanted in our natures! This EAR OIL has the effect so to re lieve the tension, and bring into us the natural action of the parts, so as to restore the hearing when lost or impaired. This is proved by so many and well-known cases, that, where known, it needs no praise. The great wi3h of the proprietor is, that each may speak to others of its uncommon virtues, till sufferers may know, and be relieved and restored by its use. This will be done in all cases of recent DEAFNESS and many of long standing. ALL DEAF PERSONS should use this oil! It will relieve at once, or, if DEAFNESS is just commencing, will remove the cause and check its progress. Those who have been long deaf should continue its application a few weeks to hear well. Each llask has full directions for use attached to it. AVOID ANY IMITATIONS. The true may be known by my signature on the flask. LEATHER RESTORER. A NEW CHEMICAL DISCOVERY. Most people know that skins anJ hides are convert ed into leather by the use of Tannin extracted from certain barks, &c. When the force and strength of the Tannin is worn out, leather becomes dead, hard dry, brittle, cracked, covered with a crust, lie. Thi? all know. To re^ store, then, life, softness, moistness, strength, smooth ness, and ramove all crust, fly, or blister?restore the tannin. This substance the leather never can receive the second time; but the whole virtues of it are in this article, the OIL OF TANNIN?which pene trates the stiffestand hardest leather, if it has been twenty years in use; and if it tears easily with the Angers, it imparts at once a strength that is utterly incredible until seen. It becomes like new leather, in all respects, with a delightful softness and polish) and makes all leather completely and perfectly im pervious to water?particularly boots, shoes, carri age-tops, harness, hose, trunks, and in fact all things made of leather, giving a splendid polish, even high er than new leather has, and at least doubling ita wear and durability, in whatever manner the leather is used. THESE ARE FACTS. Those who will may wear old shoes, groan with corns, ride with old carriage-tops?have old harness, and throw them away half used?look filthy them selves and all about them?expend double what is necessary for articles of leather to thoir hearts' con tent, for what we care, if their prejudices are so strong, they will oot try a new discovery. We have no favors to ask of them, they are the greatest sufferers, aud we beg for nobody's custom or patronage. Now, gunllemen, please yourselves. * ?t^'None genuine unless with the fac simile sig nature of COMSTOCK & Co. For sale by CHARLES STOTT, jan 20? Druggist, Penn. Av., Washington.
