THE OLD RELIABLE
Union Meeting.
The union meeting Sunday evening
was unusually well attended. All were
glad to sec the Hilo Hoarding School
cadets again in their accustomed places.
Rev. V. L. Nash presided, and the pre
liminary parts were taken by the local 1 -
clergy.
The Waiakea Mission children attended
in n tody nnd ndded greatly to the inter
est by their well-rendered selections.
The same can be said of the male quar
tette nud the solos by Mr. Kclima. Mrs.
Iilack's recitation, "A Loudon Waif,"
was earnestly nnd grncefully given.
The speaker of the evening a woman,
by the way, using ns a text Longfellow's
couplet:
" The woman with the lamp shall stand
A chosen symbol of the laud,"
showed how women hnve helped in the
work ol the world.
Her lamp has burned with greatest bril
liancy in the church of God, and has
irradiated the dark places of heathenism
with gospel light. It has brightened
hospital ami camp when the dread scourge
of war was in the laud, and has burned
as 11 clear nnd bteady beacon in philan
thropy and education. It led the men in
the great temperance reform, and through
its power nud influence will come the
clear, calm shining of the sun over 11 new
earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.
