LMPROVEMBNTS ON G STKEKT.
Allc.ilor Who ItolIovcsTlmtG Street "Will
Soon JCqunl F In Importance.
"I honestly believe," snkl Mr. J. B. Wimcr
to n llEr.Ai.i reporter, "that tho coming busi
ness street of this city is G. From Ninth
street to Fifteenth it affords every nilvantngo
necessary, nnil, in my opinion, fivo years will
sec a wonderful change in that thoroughfare.
Already 6torcs and fine buildings havo been
erected upon it, and the improvements have
"but just begun. I have backed my opinion
"by action, for Inst week I bought the property
at 1212 G street. It is 24x9S.6;nml cost about
$13 per square foot. No changes arc con
templated at present. The electric cars now
xun on G street, thus making it easy of access.
Tho prices of lnud on F street, ranging from
$20 to $40 per foot, is so high that it will drivo
building for business purposes to the next best
street. I have no doubt but that the next
lew years will see moro fine buildings
erected on G street than on F. Al
though individually tho buildings may
not be as largo as some of thoso
already located on F street, still I believe the
general average of thoso on G street will bo
much better than those on F."
A very important Improvement Ib con
templated on G street by a syndicate of
-wealthy gentlemen. They are ncgotlatintr
for tbo purchase of three lots on tho south
side of G, between Twelfth and Thirteenth
streets. Tho property, which is numbered
121G, 1218, and 1220, contains over 7,000
square feet, and is held at about $100,000, or
something over $13 a square foot. If this
property Is secured, as expected, the syndi
cate will erect on it a handsomo fivo-story
building. The first floor will be given up to
spacious stores, and tho upper stories will bo
divided into flats for dwelling purposes. Tho
cost of tho building will be in the neighbor
hood of $50,000.
Business men think that the only draw
drawback to any portion of G street, between
Ninth and Fifteenth, for a business street, is
that on the block between Thirteenth and
Fourteenth there are two churches. These
will have to bo removed or turned to other
decs before the street can become an entirely
JL Compliment Paid "Washington.
The Northwestern Investment Company,
whose home office is at No. 610 F street north
west, and its Western office at 109-110 Cham
ber of Commerce, Buluth, Minn., havo
platted an addition to Superior, Wis., and
named it "Washington Addition." To a
Hekald reporter Mr. George C. Vidctto, sec
retary of the company, said: "Yes, we havo
done more than that. We have named two of
the main streets Washington and Burgess ave
nues, the former as a compliment to this city,
the latter as a compliment to our townsman,
Mr. C. H. Burgess, the popular coal merchant
and president of thiB company. The company
has been the owner of this valuable property
lor some time, and, owing to the rapid pro
gress made in improvements and consequent
advance in values, the board of directors have
determined to oiler this beautiful addition, a
property most advantageously located, to the
Washington public for a safe and speedily
profitable investment. Superior is the final
Western deep-water port on the
Great Lakes. That, and Hhat alone,
is the justification for her enormous port
3n order that you may form an idea of the
rapid advance in value of lots contiguous to
tho 'Washington Addition' I would say that
the South Superior Improvement Company
sold lot6 from their first addition, but one
milcdistant from the' Washington Addition,'
one year ago for $150 to $350 per lot, several
of which have been sold on their best business
street as high as $2,000 each. Tho company
will offer 180 lots for sale Monday, Juno 1,
inside lots at $100 each, and corners at $150
each. Terms, one-quarter cash; balance,
three, sir, and nine months. From Industries
already in operation and projected contigu
ous to this property prices of lots in 'Wash
ington Addition' are sure to advance rapidly,
and thoso buying now oueht to realize hand
some profits on their investment before the
last payment is made. As the company con
templates giving their second annual excur
sion up tho Great Lakes in the- latter part of
-July.an opportunity will be afforded Investors
and' those Interested to take a grand trip and
see for themselves the progress made by the
twin city at the headwaters of Lake Superior,
Dulnth-Superior. Thoso desiring to go on
this excursion are invited to make application
at the company's office.
Bruit-ion in the Party "Wall Question.
Assistant Attorney Thomas rendered an
opiniou la6t week, in which he ceded the right
of the builder of a brick house adjacent to a
frame one to cut away a sufficient portion of
the frame building necessary for the erection
of a party wall. The question is one that has
long been in doubt, and has awakened con
siderable interest as to its legal status. It
was at tho suggestion of Building Inspector
Entwi6tlo that the matter was referred to Mr.
Thomas. Tbo latter reviewed tho question
at great length, and, in closing his opinion,
stated: "I am of opinion the builder of a
brick house adjacent to a lot improved by a
frame house has a right to cut away tho frame
house sufficient to place the brick partition
wall equally on his own and the adjoining
lot, the builder of the brick house, however,
being required to repair tho frame house and
make good all damages by cutting it for the
purpose of building the partition wall."
