Planters' Convention.
At the,aftuni6onmeeting yester
day, tho Planters' 7h.ssociation, as
had been foreseen would probably
bo the .case was merged in the re
cently chartered , " Planters' Labor
and Supply Company," and conse
quently tho former, as a separate
organization, ceased to exist. The
remainder of tho session of yester
day was occupied in turning over
tho Committees of tho Association
to tho Company, and they continue
their omnnal functions.
Tho S. F. Bulletin of March 1st,
thus comments on tho chartering of
the C. R. Bishop at this port to load
sugar for New York: "This move
ment will have ll o effect to" stir up
increased opposition to the ti'ealy at
tho East, where thcro is already
considerable feeling in the matter.
Tho result of the movement will be
watched with interest by both foes
and friends of tho treaty." In an
other place it says tlintsthrco vessels
instead of one have been laid on,
and adds, " It is not likely that this
sugar will bo offered in New York
much below tho price of duty paid
sugar of corresponding grades, so
that tho Southenrplanters will have
littlo cause for complaint."
