The steamer Planter brought 2,870

An expressman, on Saturday night,
was robbed of some money by natives,

Our report of tho meeting of the
Working Men's Union is unavoidably
held over. They appointed a committee
to act, in conjunction with tho German
residents, in supporting the women,
but refused to give up all control over
them.

German women state that tho manager
of the Koloa plantation never gave the
mother of the supposed starved child a
drop of jullk, although she went on her
knees and beggeil for a saucer full; she
was, however, given sumo rice. These

siasm" in its "active state;" but some
people wondered for how long the indi
pendencc of the Kingdom would be
recognized, If many moro protests weic

Marshall Capt. A. Bergermann ai
rived at this port, 1 9 days from Vt.
Townsend with 5U8.499 ft. N. W.

water was in the Wailuku, during
the great flood on the night of Oct.
26th, 10 feet higher than has been
known for fifty years.
On the night of the 17th inst, the
Ililo police made a mid on the
opium smokers, nt Paukaa planta
tion, capturing live Chinese, four of
whom were convicted on the 19tli
On the same day W. II. Lentz of
Volcano House fame was committed
for trial at the next May term on a
charge of embezzlement of the funds
of O. T. Shipnian, rather a sad ease,
for so well known a person as W. H.
Lentz.
The Police Magistrate of Ililo on
the 21st inst, decided that 111 bot
tles of whi'.ke', Chinese liquor, bran
dy and beer, seized by the police in
the store of C. T. Aiona in the town
of Ililo, was forfeited to the Govern
ment under the laws of 1882, Chap.
44, Sec. 84. This is the third seizure
of liquor fiom that store; there have
been two convictions for selling,
within 6 months from the same
place.
The Volcano is moderately active.
The chaige of ten cents each for
crossing, in the scow at Honolii,
made by the road authorities, is
very onerous, especially on the Por
tuguese and poor classes, and com
plaints are loud and deep ; the scow
tender has found it extremely diffi
cult to collect the same; it should
be abolished.
