".Has been prepared for by J. M. Oat,
'Jr., & Co. On entering their Btore,
one does not see Very much, but on
walking through we were surprised
at the quantity and variety of the
(goods, as well as the excellent choice
made in the selcctiou. In the sta
tionery line there is everything that
can possibly bo required, the latest
-novelty being the alligator note
paper, with a likeness of the creep
ing monster embossed on each sheet.
, Oat remembers the days of his
youth, and has provided tops, domi
noes, loto, puzzles, cubes, backgam
4mon and a nice assortment of illus
trated children's books. There is a
chatterbox that will silence the
brightest littlo chatterbox in Hawaii ;
the puzzles, comprised of different
.nursery stories, are very amusing.
Jolly Times, Christmas Treasures
' and Mother Goose (no stuffing).
The inkstands are a specialty, of
every variety and kind, one, inlaid
I with jcVvels, being very handsome.
Children guard some of them so that
vthe writer should be careful what he
puts on paper, us he is watched.
f The glass paper w eights are ele
gant, and by having a thimble case,
a there is no need for that rushing
f round at the last moment, when the
husband's shirt buttons are off, and
l$he wants to be off to town, and ex
claiming "where's my thimble."
L. If you purchase one of Oat's cases

vThe consignment of cheap and
goorj standard works disappeared in
the twinkling of an eye, but more
are coming on the Alameda. There
is a nice collection of ladies' bags
and reticules in Russian leather and
alligator skin. There are desks,
pockctbooks, photograph and auto
graph albums, the latter being quite
uncommon in their style ; how nice
it is to sign your name in a friendly
way without being responsible for
4 any amount. The Christmas cards,
' 'well, where can you beat them ?
All is the result of Oat's trip to the
Coast. He wanted to take us with
him, but we knew we'd spend all
his money, so we didn't go, as we
would have deprived Honolulu folks
of the good things they can now pos

Editok Bulletin In your Satur
day's paper 1 notice in the ropoits
of the last meeting of tho Working
Mcu'fi Union, Mr Dnnlolwtci's re
ntal ks about Mi. Glado'ft speech in
the German dull, at the meeting of
German residents on the 24 Novem
ber. "Mr. Glade had called them
socialists, cut-throats and nihilists."
This Is not tlfo truth, Mr. Glade
spoke of social democrats and
nihilists, but never used the expres
sion cut-throats, Whether it 1b
generally understood, that nihilists
arc cut-throats, perhaps Mr. Danicl
wiez will best be able to explain.
It is hardly possible to tuisinter-
pret the word "Soeialisten" which
means Bocial democrats, a class of
people against whom the German
Government had to make special
laws, and in whose ranks assassins
arc found. It docs not mean socia
lists, or promoters of good society
as Mr. Daniclwicz has found in
I shall be glad, to see the laborer
on Lihuc plantation, on exhibition
in the next agricultural show sug
gested by Mr. Kohm, so that he
may explain to the workingmen, how
money can be saved. It seems im
possible, that Mr. Kohm should
have intended to insinuate any doubt
in Mr. Glade's statements.
"1 fail to see how Messrs. Kohm
and Daniclwicz, who have been
present at the meeting of German
residents, can possibly have mis
understood how the money sub
scribed by them was to be expended.
It was very clearly said that such
funds should be under the control of
Mr. Schmidt, and that they would
have nothing to do with the Work
insrmen's Union. A Gkkman.

The Patent Spring Horse Shoe doe
Recommended by the California Society of

l"lils shoe is the invention of an old
horseman of 40 yeais experience, and is
manufactured in New York City from
steel prepared expressly for this pur
pose, and carefully tempered to retain
the elasticity of the spring as long as
in use. As the name implies the gene
ral principal, is to act as an assistant,
where ejasticity is natural in the foot.
The toes of thc&e shoes being made
heavier tliau those of the common kind,
act as a toe weight, giving a horse a
