port yesterday. The captain reports
that on January 23rd, John Lallow one
of the bhlps crew died of brain fever.

The Zcalandia took 1843 bags sugar
and 1000 bunches of bananas. Total
domestic value, 12,000.
The bktue Amelia, Capt. W. Ncwhall,
28 days from Port Townscnd, brought
473,000 feet of lumber to Allen & Robin
son. She left Port Blakcly Dec. 10,
first thirty-six hours bad snow squalls
from N. W. during which the fore
sail and spanker were split. She then
had a succession of squalls from S. E.
and S. W. to lat. 25 North; then a S. W.
gale which lasted 2 days, thence to port
light E.N.E. winds.

Mn. Mark Foy of Victoria, who
was recently slaying witli his wife at
the Hawaiian Hotel, died in San
Francisco.
A heavy rainfall, similar to that

The Saturday and Sunday con
tingent of law-breakers were com
pelled to postpone their interview
with Judge Bickcrlon till this morn
ing as the Police Court took a
holiday yesterday. The offenders
include, drunks, disorderly con
ductors, pugilists, common nuisances
and adulterers.
The advantage of advertising in
the Bulletin was shown last week.
A gentleman lost a horse which was
returned to bin late in the evening
before the advertisement appeared.

The ruin on Sunday evening did
considerable damage in and around
Montgomery Estate. The water on
the roads was three feet deep, and
over the floors in many houses.
Many of the residents being alarmed
removed their household effects to a
place of safety. Our informant
says if the government would repair
the banks of the creek it would pre
vent the water from overflowing.

The Marquis and Marchionness of
Normanby, who are expected by the
next trip of the Australia from the
Colonics, ate both iii bad health.
An Australian paper says: "The
Marchionness of Normanby is pro
gressing very slowly, and her severe
illness, and the disappointment cans
ed by it being so near their intended
departure for England has visibly
affected his Excellency's health. Dr.
James now sleeps every night at
Government House, and it is not im
probable that he will go home with
the famihy."
LATEST FOREIGN NEWS.
By the S. S. Zenlundia we have
received New Zealand papers to 4th
Inst., with London news of the same
date, from which we clip the follow
ing: London, Muich 1st. The state
ment that two British regiments
would shortly go to Assouan, on the
northern mibinii frontier, is now
again current.
Telegrams to baud from Souakim
state that after the battle of yester
day the British troops under Major
Gencral Graham bivouacked at El
Tel, and to-day advanced to Kac.
Baker Pasha was wounded during
the engagement. Later accounts
stale that, the rebels fought with
great desperation, and only Biiccuni
bed after , hard struggle for victory.
Mnjor-Gcneral Graham telegraphs
that the engagement yesterday lasted
fully three hours, and during that
time the fighting was most severe.
His troops captured seven guns and
n quantity of war material. The
British loss is thirty killed and 142
wounded. Among the latter was
Baker Pasha and Colonels Burnaby
and Baron, all of whom suffered
severe injuties.
Cairo, March 2nd. Latest intelli
gence from Souakim states that Ba
ker Pasha and Colonel Burnaby,
who were wounded during the battle
yesterday, are progressing favorably.

Osman Digna is encamped at a
dislauco of eight miles from Soun
kim, and it is expected that a battle
between the rebels and the British
troops w ill shortly take place.
The latest telegrams to hand from
Sounkiin bring the news that Tokar
has been relieved. The British troops
left yesterday morning, and marched
to Tokar, which they occupied dur
ing the afternoon without opposition.
The Arab rebels who had invested
the place withdrew before the Bri
tish anived, and offered no check to
their advance.
Constantinople, March 2nd Tele
grams arc to hand from Candia re
porting that a religious ferment lias
commenced amongst the Cretans,
who repudiated a Mussulman Gover
nor, of the island and threatened to
revolt unless he is removed.
Cairo, March 2nd Intelligence
has been received here from Colonel
Stewart, who was despatched some
weeks ago to the White Nilo district
in the extreme south of Nubia, with
the object of cudeavouring to pacify
the native tribes who arc joining the
Mahdi's ranks. Colonel Stewart re
ports that bis mission has proved a
failure, all efforts to pacify the rc
bclious tribes having been futile.

Nile at the head of a force of 2000
Bashi-Bazouks.

tical with , those already seized, was
found to-day in the Ludgate Hill
Railway Station.
An accidental explosion has oc
curred on board the Aberdeen, bound
for Adelaide. The captain aud seve
ral of the crew were injured, and the
vessel has returned to Gravescnd.
London, March 3rd. The pilot of
the Aberdeen has died, and the cap
tain is in a precarious condition.
London, March -Ith. Latest re
ports say that fifteen hundred rebels
were killed in the late , engagement,
and that a force of two thousand ir
regulars from Khartoum has marched
to meet the advancing rebels. The
Times complains that General Gra
ham directed the retreat ( ?) from
Souakim.
There has been a destructive lire
in Adelaide at Cowell Bros, timber
yards.
The London Chartcicd Bank of
Australia, at Horsham in Victoria,
was robbed by burglars of 5,500.
There has been a destructive hur
ricane at Tonga.
