at that company's wharf. She had heavy

Owing to the day being a Govern
ment holiday very little business has
been done. All tho consular flags
wero Hying and n good many ships
in the harbor displayed bunting.
Some of the stores and the bank
closed at noon! A salute was fired
at noon from the shore battery.
"We would like to ask Consul Ir
win whether it would be possible for
him to arrange wrestling and fencing
matches by the Japanese for the
benefit of the public at large. Say,
out at the Makiki grounds on Satur
day afternoon, as we suppose some
of them will be leaving on Monday.
It would be a rare treat to us nil.
The mail by the S. S. Mariposa
will close at the Post Olllce Saturday
morning at 10 o'clock ; a late letter
bag at ll-:30 o'clock, on payment
of an additional five cents. Appli
cations for money orders by the
same steamer will bo received until
noon to-morrow.
Tin: Superintendent of "Water
Works gives notice that water will
be shut off on Liliha, Judd, Nuuanu
(above Judd), Pauoa, Punchbowl,
Lunalilo to corner of Kapiolani
Street, to-morrow, from tho hours
of 8 a. m. to 3 p. m., for the pur
pose of cleaning the reservoir.
Chas. Hustacc, the well known
King street, grocer, has received a
splendid stock of new goods by the
Mariposa. These goods arc really
too numerous for us to mention, but
we strongly advise everyone to call
and see him, for his prices arc such
as suit the times, and his goods arc
first-class.
Messrs. Schaefer & Co.. have just
received from Bremen some very
handsome designs of stone filters
and wine coolers. They are solo
agents in these Islands for the Geo.
Goulet brand of champagne, which
is unsurpassed for quality and repu
tation. This firm has constantly on
hand a large stock in quarts and
pints.

It appears that some xmrtics aro
taking proceedings to have the Ha
waiian Bazar placed in bankruptcy.
Our notice yesterday was perhaps a
little premature, though the proceed
ings were taken and a hearing will
bo given in the Supremo Court on
Saturday. Mr. Kennedy, one of the
partners, has filed a bill in equity.
The Bazar remains closed.
The Union Feed Co. lias received
in the last few days ex Norway,
Forest Queen, and Mariposa, a very
large stock of Hay and Grain, con
sisting of 1,000 bales of Hay, 1,000
bags of Oats, loOO.bags Barley,
1,000 bags Bran. Their largo and
spacious warehouses arc pretty well
filled at the present time. Their
large supply will only last a few
weeks, and by the Alameda they
are to have another large lot.
This morning, precisely at eight
o'clock, a very interesting, ceremony
took place at tho Palace. A few
.minutes before tho hour a detach
ment of soldiers marched from the
barracks with the Royal Standard
and a new flag for Her Majesty
Queen Kapiolaiii. As tho clock
struck eight they were hoisted up on
the top of the building, the drum
corps playing from the barracks.
The Quecn'B flag, which was hoisted
for the first time, is a very handsome
one. It is a white ground, in the
centre of which is a red circle with
the inscription "Kalaualani," tho
whole of which is surmounted by a
crown.
Yesterday afternoon the Royal
Hawaiian Band gave a concert at
the Immigration Depot for the bene
fit of the Japanese immigrants.

the Japs gave a very lino exhibition
of their powers in wrestling and
fencing, much to the delight of

Tin: annual meeting of tho Sailors'
Homo Society was held this morn
ing, tho lion. C. R. Bishop presid
ing: The minutes of the last meet
ing wore read, after which the
treasurer's .report was read and
accepted. It showed no debt on
the home at the close of 1881. The
following were elected trustees to
serve for three years, ending Dec.
31st, 1887: Messrs. S. M. Damon,
B. F. Dillingham, II. F. Glade, A.
S. Cleghorn, W. W. Hall and Rev.
E. C. Oggcl. The meeting then
adjourned.
THE FIREMEN'S PARADE.
This morning opened out beauti
fully lino for tho annual parade of
the Honolulu Fire Department.
Shortly before the time appointed
for the procession to start large
crowds of people gathered in the
vicinity of the bell tower, the starl
ing point. All the engine houses
were gaily decorated for tho occa
sion. At five minutes past ten
o'clock three taps from the large
boll iu the boll tower announced
that all was ready, and immediately
afterwards the procession started.
First came four juvenile members of
the department carrying flags, fol
lowed by the fire police, after which
were Chief Engineer John Nott,
First Assistant Engineer Chas. B.
Wilson, Secretary Henry Smith, Fire
Marshal James McGuire and Engine
Surveyor John C. White. Tho Royal
Hawaiian Band under Bandmaster
Bcrgcr was next, followed by the
various companies in the order
named:
Honolulu Exmxn Co. No. 1.
The engine, which was drawn by
four bay horses, was most profusely
decorated and looked as bright as a
new silver dollar. The members
were neatly dressed in dark blue.
Mechanic Engine Co. No. 2.
Their engine was drawn by four
grey horscs and was most beauti
fully decorated with flowers and
evergreens. The men looked very
neat in black pants, red shirts and
helmets.
Reformatory School Band.
Engine Co. No. 4.
Over the driver's scat was an arch
of evergreens, and there was also
one over the hose cart with the figure
4 suspended from the centre. The
engine looked beautifully bright and
the members made a neat appear
ance in their appropriate costumes.
The engine was drawn by four bay
horses.
Pacific Hose Co. No. 1.
Tho wagon had recently been
painted in an elegant manner. This
was its first appearance in public and
was admired by everybody. The
floral decorations were very profuse.
The company made a very excellent
showing.
Hooic & Ladder Co.
No attempt at decorations had
been made by this company.
China Engine Co. No. 5.
This company raado the finest
showing and turned out in largest
numbers. Their engine was prettily
decorated with evergreens and Chi
nese designs. Immediately follow
ing was a large, handsome banner
most beautifully worked. In tho
centre was China No. 5 in largo
letters. This was followed by two
more Chinese banners, and then the,
company looking very neat in their
blue jackets with white helmets.
Tho procession was followed
around by a largo number of people
and was quite a success, though we
should like to have seen the members
turn out in full strength.
"When the procession arrived at
the Palace His Majesty tho King,
attended by Col. Judd, His Ex. the
Premier and Brigade Major Haylcy
appeared on the verandah. Chief
Engineer Nott ascended tho steps
and tendered the congratulations of
the Fire Department on His Ma
jesty's reaching tho eleventh anni
versary of his accession and the
second of, his coronation, and ex
pressed the wish of the Department
that His Majesty may live and reign
to sec many more hucIi occasions.

The King in reply expressed appre
ciation of tho compliment and desired
the Chief to convoy to the firemen
of Honolulu his firm conviction that
the Fire Department was in n very
efficient condition, n conviction
formed from what ho himself iiad
witnessed at iccent fires in tho oily.
The procession then inarclicd out of
the Palace grounds.
