ROBBERY AND ARREST.
Tuesday evening of last week,
Mr. Miller, cabinet maker, with his
wife, went out to their Sea View
residence, Metcalf street, beyond
Punahou, and while there placed in
a drawer for safe keeping 8115 in
gold coin, three $10 bills, and $90
in silver coin. On the following
Thursday Mrs. Miller, while out at
the house went to the drawer to get
some change, and to her dismay,
found it all gone. On examining
the jewelry box, she discovered tlio
jewelry also gone. She immediately
locked up the house, and coming to
town, notified her husband of the
robbery. The jewcliy box was
robbed of a lady's watch and chain,
two sets of earings, an old silver
watch, and a gold locket. The
household silver-ware, which was
near at hand, was not touched. The
oltl watch was sold to Mr. Thomas
Lindsay, jeweler and watchmaker,
Nuuanu street, a week ago last
Saturday, which fact plainly shows"
that the house was twice entered.
It is very probable that hail Mr.
Miller looked into tho jewelry box
Tuesday night, ho would have
found no jewelry there. It seems
that Mrs. Miller, when leaving
the house, would lock up all
tho doors and windows and hide
the front door key some where
outside. Tho robber most likely
watched where tho key was hid, and
when the coast was clear, had no
dilllculty in entering the house.
The robbery was kept pretty quiet
m hopes of catching the culprit un
awares. Tho police worked dili
gently, and were successful in over
hauling the robber this morning.
Frank Davis, a half-white carpenter,
was caught at Kamoiliili, Waikiki
uka, this morning, lodged in jail
and charged with the above job
bery. It appears that Davis had
been sporting at Waikiki with plenty
of money, and a number of wojncn
of late. lie was carefully watched
and nicely captured. Ho is booked
for larceny, and will bo tried next
