the damage.
A local eaithquako was felt in

morning. It was not severe.
We understand that the Chau

Shakespeare, Jove and Mars, will
again come to the front, and tho war
will bo carried on with vigor. No

KAU NOTES.
The district has been favored with
heavy showers of rain during the
last seven days and the outlook in
dicates more to follow ; it has come
none too soon, the country was
looking very dried and brown but
has now a now face on it.
The Pahala Mill, sinco tho raaco
rotion process was adopted, has
b'ecn doing very good work, tho per
centage being vory high, and the
quantity of sugar manufactured
during tho past dry time, with a
shoit water supply, has been fully
up to, if not over the average.
The Naalehu and Honuapo Mills
arc also grinding and turning out a
good deal of sugar, making tho sup
ply from this district rather more
than the "Hall" has been able to
handle the last two or three trips.
A very pleasant party was given
by Mr. and Mrs. Monsarrat nt Ka
papala Ranch on Saturday evening,
8th iust. The elite rjf the neigh
borhood was there, dancintc was in
dulged in and kept up into the small
hours of the morning, one and all
enjoying themselves nnd, after a few
hours' rest, going home with kindly
thoughts of their host and hostess
for the manner in which they had en
abled all to pass a very enjoyable
time.
