It has been the custom heretofore at
this school to have musicales at thu
end of the term, with the pupils as
paiticipants. On this occasion there
was a somewhat new departure, and
a fine programme had been prepar
ed. Two choruses wero given by
tho Honolulu Choral Society under
Mr. Ulssell's direction, nnd were well
received. Prof. Sauvlet showed great
skill at the piano in several solos.
He also played Beethoven's sonata
Op B!J, which was preceded with an
interesting explanation by Mr. Bis
sell. A book has been written by
Von Bulow, tho great pianist, in
which he explains all the Beethoven
sonatas. It is interesting reading
and those who play Beethoven will

rendered in fine htyle, and Miss
Nolte gavo much pleasure to the
