The Caibaiicn left San Francisco
bound for Santa Rosalia with a cargo
of general merchandise shipped by
A. Carpenticr. After discharging
her cargo she loaded with ballast
and sailed for Altala, where she ex
pected to take on a cargo of woods
for New York. On the 2d inst. Al
tata was sighted. The vessel passed
safely over the bar. Subsequently
the winds which had been steady all
day ceased to blow, and the bark
was becalmed. She dropped anchor
and the strong tide swung her in
shore. She struck on the beach,
and became for all purposes a total
wreck. She laid there until the 10th
inst., when a survey was held. She
was condemned and sold. The hull
brought S305, the stores 8112, and
the incidentals made the total sum
obtained $-1-10. It is believed that
the Caibaiicn was not insured direct
ly in any of the local companies. It
is known that she was insured in the
East. The Caibaiicn is entitled to
mention as being one of the oldest
vessels from this coast. She was
built over forty years ago, and was
in the Australian register at one
time. Subsequently she was placed
in the American register and the
packet service between Honolulu
and New York.
Sydney, September 20. Colonial
Treasurer McMillan lias resigned.
He takes the step because the Pre
mier expresses disapproval of his
promise to a deputation of merchants
that the Government would take ex
treme measures to protect non-union
men against strikers.
Anxiety is felt for the ship Henry
Buck, which was spoken at sea in
distress by the bark AV. B. Godfrey.
She has not been heard of since, and
is long overdue at San Francisco.
The pilot boat Gov. Moody was

Impart life to the fibres, tho result Is scurf,
