Bishop, was dunned and the general site fur it selected eaj ly in 1887. Its erection was de layed by several considerations. It was deemed wise to inaugurate the school as soon as possible, ami it was therefore decided to erect other buildings, such as dormitories, din-ing-hall, and workshops, and use other buildings temporarily lor reci tations. This afforded opportunity to perfect the plans for the principal building, and to determine the ma terial to be used in its construction. An experiment in building the kitchen of the lava stone found pro fusely on the premises, and the later experience in erectin!i the Bishop Museum decided the matter, and Bishop Hall, instead of being a brick or concrete building, is a handsome and imposing sloue structure. Its commanding site and attractive ex terior make it a striking feature of the Honolulu landscape. The building is on the so-called court-plan, being an L-slinpcd struc ture nowhere wider than the width of a class-room plus the width of an open corridor on one side of the building. It is 108 feet long on the side toward the sea, and lit) feet long in the rear. The corridor run ning all around the building is 10 feet wide, with broad arch-ways opening toward the sea. There are fourteen rooms in the building, viz., the assembly room, where the students meet for chapel aud general exercises, six class rooms, a cloak-room for the lady teachers, a reading room, odice, janitor's room, hut-room, and two spare rooms, one to be used for ex hibiting samples from the vvoik shops. The class rooms are large, well lighted and airy, capable of seating forty pupils. One of the rooms is used also for the Glee Club aud another for mechanical drawing. The scuts in the asse;nVy room are arranged in a sen i e; cle, the rows of seats radiating lrom the rostrum. This room has an open timbered roof and presents a line appearance. The entire building is wired for lighting by electricity. The electric plant is on the way. Klectrio bulla communicate .vith each class room from the olfice on the ground lloor. At some future date, public exer cises will be held in the Hall, of which suitable notice will be given. Handicraft. THE BEST PHYSIC.
