THOUSANDS OF BOOMERS.
They Aro Nwnrtnliic MJt Jlccfi on
tlio eiii'J'rniKi Jlordfi-,
Kingfisher, O. T., April 18.
Twcnty-flvo thousand boomers arc
bivouacking to-night on the horders
of the Cheyenne and Arapahoe re
servation, which will bo thrown jpoii
for settlement to-morrow. These,
with others, who will inakc the race
from various uilies along the rail
road lines, make a total of some
28,000 peoplo who arc seeking homes.
Innumerable rumors are current to
night of steals and conspiracies in
connection with locating the town
situs, involving Federal and railway
olllcials, hut none have been traced
to a reliable source. There is a lino
before the Land Olllce, which num
bers some 100 men, who are deter
mined to keep their position despite
of the rumors that an attempt will
be made to dislodge them. It is not
thought that trouble will occur, as
the Sheriff has ample force to keep
order. It is believed that the last
man in lino to-night cannot possibly
file before the last squatter has
located a claim. Filings made later
will be useless, and there will doubt
less be much disappointment on the
part of both filers and squatters.
The scene on the border to-night
is an interesting one, as 'the crowds
are drawn up in practically military
line along the edge of the border.
Some confusion and considerable ill
feeling was created during the even
ing by the late-comers trying to get
into advantageous positions, but no
affrays are reported, and the indica
tions are that the opening will pass
off without trouble.
Darlington, O. T., April 18.
Nearly every colonist who proposes
to race for laud claims at the opening
to-mof row is now on the boundary.
In this case the railroad trains on the
Rock Island road will play an impor
tant part. It is proposed to run a
special train to three unallotted quarter-sections
on that road, where a
.syndicate of capitalists of El Reno,
together with a number of United
States olllcials and raihoad represen
tatives, propose to erect a town. It
is expected to land them there a few
minutes after noon, far ahead of those
who go by wagon or on horseback.
Another Rock Island train will leave
Kingfisher for another new town,
which it is proposed to build on its
line. If the crowd bid enough to
justify it, two trains will be run from
this point. The largest number will
strike for the county seat of the
county. The number estimated to
go to this point is 10,000.
Oklahoma City, April 18. The
city is becoming rapidly depopulated
and by to-morrow business will be
totally suspended, as practically ev
erybody is leaving for the reserva
tion. Banks and other places have
decided not to open unless they can
have a good guard, fearing that raid
ers ma' take advantage of the situ
ation. It is not certain that when 12
o'clock comes to-morrow the 300 men
who failed to get a place in the line
at the Land Oflice will not make a
rush regardless of position and the
best man will get to the Land Olllce,
which is situated in the third story of
a building, first.
The route from here to the border
is lined with people of all sorts and
conditions, and traveling in every
conceivable manner. Many are car
rying supplies for the purpose of es
tablishing business, in fact everything
for country life is to be found. It is
rumored that two confidence men,
who succeeded in robbing a boomer,
were shot dead en route to the coun
try, but the rumor is not confirmed.
THK SISSETON SQCJATTKKS.
Browns Valley (Minn.), April 18.
Trouble is brewing between the
filers and squatters on 'the Sisseton
Reservation. The question at issue
i9 whether the squatters got posses
sion before the filings were made.
One hundred and fifty filers at Water
town, who were among the first in
line, passed through here and entered
the reservation. They claim it was
impossible for the squatters to reach
the points on which the filings were
made from the border before their
filings wero completed ; therefore,
they propose to have the land on
which they filed. They can't get it
without a fight, and it may be only a
few days before a collision takes
place.
The Indian police are endeavoring
to check the setting of prairies on
fire, as squatters are doing for the
purpose of breaking the land easier,
as the fire9 cause considerable damage
to pastures.
A number of people struggled into
town to-day half starved and nearly
crazy from thirst. While there is
plenty of water in the reset vation
they arc unfamiliar with the country
and could not find it.
Squatters have not delayed in get
ting to work ; hundreds of acres are
already broken and flax sown. Manv
are putting in corn, and hopo to
make enough this season to cover ex
penses of proving up.
So far no claim-jumping has occur
red, and if any trouble occurs it will
bo from the efforts of filers to do so.
At Waterlowu a large crowd is
still before the land olllce, and as
high as 1 1 filing-, have been offered
lor a single tract. For each tract in
the southern portion there are from
oue to five claims, as the squatters
are filing by hundreds to-day.
Mr. J. 1 Hluizo, an extensive real
estate dealer in Des Moines, Iowa,
narrowly escaped on of the severest
attacks of pneumonia whilo in tlio
northern part of that state during n
recent blizzard, says tlio Saturday
Jievtew. Mr. Blaizo hud occasion to
drive several miles during the. storm
and was so thoroughly ehillt'd that
he was unablo to get warm, and in
side of an hour after his return ho
was threatened with a severe case of
pneumonia or lung fever. Mr. Ulako
sent to the nearest diug storo and
got n bottle of Chamber Iain's Cough
Remedy, of which ho had often
heard, and took n number of largo
doses. IIo says the effect was won
derful and that in a short time he
was breathing quite easily. He kept
on taking the medicine and the next
day wa9 ablo to come to Des Moinos.
Mr. Hlnize regards his cure as simply
wonderful. Fifty cent bottles for
enlc by all dealers. Benson, Smith
