The Honest People of Honolulu:
The Shirt Question is still in tho
minds of the public and I wish to
make a standing statement in regard
to tho Liining-johnsoii mattor. On
or about tho 2d day of Decombor a
lot of old shirts was loft in my ollico
w'ith instructions to repair them bj
ono signed Liming. 1 did repair
tho shirts, and a few days later this
man Luning, accompanied by his
wife, called and brought another
shirt to bo repaired, and also asking
to seo tho first lot of shirts. I show
ed them and they were both well
pleased and said tho job was well
done, and told mo that tho China
man would call on Monday and take
thorn to bo re-laundried. This was
on Saturday previous to Monday
mentioned, and when I finished tho
last shirt I brought the bill to
Luning at his ollice. Ho got excited
but I did not scare, and I simpl'
told him I would liko to collect
money for my work. Ho used some
very hot words and said I had a
cheek to ask for my 11101103' thon,
and ho said ho would ruin mo, but
still I did not scare. I told Luning
in presence of a witness that ho was
welcome to call at my place of busi
ness, where I have a room enclosed,
and ho could try on the shirts there,
but ho would not do it. No doubt
Mr. Luning thought ho had dead
easj' game, but ho was liko tho man
that fell out of tho balloon ho was
simply not in it. I will say this,
that hi any case I make now shirts
and if they do not give entire satis
faction I will altor them, make now
shirts, or refund tho money. Can
an' person do more? I will also
keep in repair all shirts made by mo
for two years froo of charge, lor I
am as quiet as a lamb.

Practice vs. Principle.
Ono of the curious features of Jay
Gould's career was his great desiro
to suppress a littlo book that ho
wrote when a vory young mau. It
eoutainud lofty and gonorous bonti
lnonts which woro in direct conflict
with tho method? of his business
life, and the millionaire speculator
paid high pricos for tho first and
only edition of his efforts as an au
thor. In this ho merely imitated
Napoleon, who ransacked Franco to
gather in and destroy his youthful
essay on liberty that furnished tho
finest satiro on his career as rulor of
Frnucu. San Francisco Chronicle.
Could Mary Again.
Tho Husband (on his donthbed)
My darling, whou I am gone, how

An advortisoniont appears in a
Wostorn papor which reads thus:
"If George William Brown, who
dosortod his poor wife and babe
twonty-fivo years ago, will return,
tho aforesaid babe will knock tho
Mulling out of him." Richmond (Va.)
Slate.
When on a visit to Iowa, Mr. K.
Dolton, of Luray, IJussell County,
Kansas, called at tho laboratory of
Chamberlain & Co., Dos Moines, to
show thorn his hix year old boy,
whoso life had boon saved by Cham
berlain's Cough Komedy, it having
cured him of a vory sovoro attack of
croup. Mr. Daltou is certain that it
saved his boy's life and is enthus
iastic in his praise of tho Homody.
