I wondor bow many nmntour
cyclists thoro are who realize the
necessities of careful diot? I am
afraid thoro aro mauy who go out
on an empty stomach, whilo othors
fly to tho opposito extreme, and
mount tho cyclo immediately aftor
partaking of a heavy moal. It
needs not tho scientist to explain
that tho natural cousequonco of a
heavy meal is a state of fatiguo
and lassitude. Thoro is no dan
ger in taking light nourishment
during a long day's riding, but
tho rofrt'Bhinont Bhould bo mode
rate. Tho big moal of tho day
Bhduld bo delayed till tho ond of
tho ride. Even in this, howovor,
thero is a danger when, for in
stance, bed is immediately resort
ed to. I do not suggest that cy
clists should stint thomsolyeB in
tho niattor of meals; but it is im
portant to point out tlmt,uuless
digestion is properly studied, tho
dosirod bonoht, fiom cycling aro
absolutely nullified. If a rido be
fore breakfast possesses attrac
tions, somo light ropast will do no
harm. Business in on who occa
sionally find it incumbent upon
them to travel immediately after a
substantial meal would do well to
preserve a very moderate pace.

Russia lias tho oldest man liv
ing, if the story which tho Mos
cow correspondent of the St. Pet
ersburg Gazette tolls is true.
From documentary evidence, it
appears that a man named Kus
min was born in 1757. From his
20th to his G8th year ho was a
coachman, but when ho tipped 'his
mastor over and did somo injury,
his long service was rewarded by
sending him to Siberia, where ho
remained until 1893. In 1894 he
wont to Kieff on a pilgrimage and
has just returned. Naturally ho
finds that all his early frionds aro
dead. Tho old man is in good
physical condition, his eye is
uudimtnod, and ho is a great
walker. Up to his 131th year ho
had never taBtcd whisky. Now, at
tho age of 139, ho takes an occa
sional drink. What a boon this
story will bo for total abstinence
advocates! Buffalo Express.

Honolulu's warm climate is
conducivo of thirst to a greator
dogrco than that of a colder zone.
The avorago business man loses
also, to a degiee, the amount of
energy and nervous force common
enough in tho hiacing air of
American cities. These two phases
of our climate make it moro
necessaiy than elewhoro to stim
ulate the system w ith an invigor
aut. No moro healthful or purer
stimulus, or one more delightful
to tho paint-, can bo found, than
Pabst Milwaukee beei. It is a
delicious drink and is constantly
on draught at tho Cosmopolitan,
