Japanese contract laborer from Kthcl,
and confined In Walluku Jail waiting
trial nt the present Juno term of the
Second Circuit Court for forgery, cs
' caped from tho Jail at about 7 o'clock
last Sunday morning and has never
been captured yet. Sheriff Baldwin has
offered a reward of $100 for his cap

Washington, May 28. A protracted
meeting of the sub-commltteo of tho
Republican National Committee, hav
ing In charge the details and arrange
ments of tho approaching national con
vention In Philadelphia, was held hero
tonight. The sub-committee consists
of Senntor M. A. Hanna, General Clias.
Dick of Ohio, Senntor John Kcan of
Now Jorsey, Senator N. U. Scott of
West Virginia, Joseph II. Mnnley of
Maine, Henry C. Pnyno of Wisconsin,
nnd Richard C. Kerens of Missouri.
George Wlswell of Mllwnulci":, who Is
to bo scrgcant-nt-arm8 of tho conven
tion, was In consultation with tho com
mittee during the greater part of Its
session. He reported tho convention
hall s about completed and ready to
bo turned over to' tho committee.
Secretary Dick presented a tabulated
list of tho delegates to tho convention
thus far selected, together with a list
of tho contests Indicated by the returns
received by him up to date. Most of
tho contests will be from tho Southern
States, but how many there arc and tho
prcclso nature of them cannot be de
termined as yet. Informally the offices
of temporary clmlrmnn nnd temporary
secretary were discussed.
I It may bo said by authority that
Senator Wolcott of Colorado will ho
the temporary chnlrman of tho conven
tion. No definite selection of a tem
porary secretary has been made
