tho transport Lawton from Nagasaki
anchored oft tho harbor. She called for
eight hundred tons of coal nnd to land
two cases of small-pox. One of the
cases Is convalescent nnd the other caso
broke out ten days bo.'oro the vessel
reached hero clnco which tlmo mf-oth-rs
have developed.
It was somo tlmo before the quaran
tine officials hero mado up their mlnde
to allow' tho Ijiwton to enter the hnr
hor but when It wns explained to Dr.
Cnrmlchacl that tho vessel must take
eight hundred tons of coal, and that It
would consumo about two weeks' time
to put It aboard If tho transport re
mained outside, bo concluded to have
her to como In and anchor In the
stream, under a strict quarantine. She
accordingly entered and Is moored near
the llghtfiouso next to the M. P. firace.

secure that It will be Impossible to

to Victoria, when the start Is to be
made six weeks hence.
