"Four complaints hae been in
vestigated and the nuisances abated.
"Nineteen 48 hour notices hae been
served during the montll and sixteen j
were compiled with. In each of three

tive woman who leases the property
will neither Improve nor sell to those
who nre willing to fill the pond, I wish
the Hoard would visit and condemn th
same."

L. O. Keen, Inspector of drainage
nnd house sewers, reports as follows
for the month of August: Plans filed
US; permits Issued, US; inspections
of plumbing and house sewers, 330,
finals Issued, 88; sewet connections
made. 73.
On September 1 thero had been made
322 separate connections to tho swer
svstem, representing 674 buildings In
which are some 9000 people, mostly
Chinese and Japanese. These connec
tions nre for the most part along King
street Ewa of Nuuanu stream- and
along Llllha street to School. All
houses along both streets are with a
few exceptions now connected with the
sewer sjstcm, the plumbing in all of
said houses having been put in a sani
tary condition according to the rules
nnd regulations of the Hoard of Health.

inspections and caused 292 abatements.
T. W. Carroll, district No. 5, made
1742 Inspections and compelled 811 Im
provements. John W. Francis, district No C,
made 1CS0 Inspections and had 6C3 al
terations finished.

the district of Honolulu In August by
the Doard of Health. Exactly one
fciirth of the number were infants un

011 August 20, 1901:
"Tho officers, employes and others
formerly connected with the Honolulu
Stock Yards have been examined In a
most careful manner, we being unable.
However, to secure- any evidenco or
clicumstnnies which would lead us to
believe that the fire was Incendiary.
We find that the havluft where tno Hit
started was open nnd unprotected, the
entrance thereto being by n ladder In
the rear nnd open for uny and every
one who wished to enter, which could
have been done without detection. Wo
cannot discover tunt any one, except
the night force was around the premi
