hut to tho whole community as well.
Have not recent revelations proven tho despernto perversity of these
"mnchlno" methods? Havo they not shown Hint tho candidates who ac
cepted nomination under this tyctem are now. nnd would continue to lie
after election, not the servants of the public will, but the sworn satellites
of a political ring ? What consideration, therefore, need bo given to the
reputation for probity of any candidate who has stultified bis manhood to

cerned about tho personnel of tho Tlepuullcnn Central Committee than that
of tho Republican ticket."
Wo contend that tho result of this unlnwful practice is subversive of
good government and calculated to pervert all tho currents of civilized "
clcty. Vo protest against this using of tho law for purposes of coercion. We
protest against this degradation of tho good and this exaltation of the base.

to this community but to the civilized world.

unworthy of his official trust; ho hns forfeited his claim to the title of the
"public protector" and has earned for himself tho tltlo of tho "public ty
rant." There never was a more auspicious moment than tho present for
seeking to enlist tho services of the goo.l citizens of this community In
defense of tho laws, ol tho Institutions and Iho principles upon which society
