Governor Pi ear, who returned
from a very pleasant and prolltablo
trip around the Island of Kauai this
morning, will leave for Washington
on or about the 14 th of next month.
He stated this morning that Recla
mation Hxpert Newell might go back
on tho same steamer with him, al
though It Is possible that Mr. Newell
will have to go at an earlier data
than the Governor.
One of the most Important matters
that will bo taken up by the Gov
ernor will be to see what can bo dono
towards securing for Hawaii a pait ot
tho United States appropriation for
iccl.imatlon work. Mr. Newell, tho
expert on tho subject of Reclamation,
will bo In Washington lit the same
time ns the Governor, and the two ot
them will piobnbly work together on
this proposition.
Mr. Newell has been greatly Im

has visited them all now, and Ills

this afternoon at 2:15 o'clock '
at the Queen's Hospital, where '
she went yesterday afternoon '
to undergo an operation. The '
cause of death could not be '
learned from the hospital, '
where inquiry was made this '

noon that Mrs. Parker died '
from heart failure following an '
operation for cancer in the '
breast,
Mrs. Parker was the widow
of the lade Jos. Campbell,
who died several eurs ago,

When the cave-in occurred ono of the
men was instantly Killed, and when
the rescue party had dug out the de
bris they found another man who was
almost oicrcomo by tho gases. Ho
was, however, Anally brought back
to consciousness, A coroner's Jury
decided that the man's death was accidental.
