A large meeting was held In St. Louis on the 1st inst., composed of Whigs, Amer icans and Republisans, for the purpose of organizing the Opposition party of the city, and to appoint delegates to the Opposition State Convention, to be held at Jefferson City on the 28th of this month. Among other resolutions, one was passed recom mending Hon, Edward Bates for the Presi dency. : There never has been an execution in this country for treason. Washington pardoned the insurrectionists of Pennsylvania. John Adams also pardoned Fries and his asso ciates. Jerome Bonaparte, of Baltimore, who re cently returned home, has, to his honor, re fused the dignity of senator, which Prince Jerome, his father, tendered in order to re tain him in France. He preferred the sim ple title of citizen of the United States. One of the buildings of Knox College, Illinois, was consumed by 6re on the night of the 30th ult. : Name. .1 1-i Hon. Fen ner Ferguson, the Nebraska del egate to Congress during the last session, died in that Territory, a few days 6ince. Some 84000 of the 6000 stolen from the treasury of the Shawnee Indians about three weeks since has been recovered, and the party who committed the theft discov ered. Messrs. Chick, Nelson & Co., at Kansas City, advertise for 5D00 hogs. The prices there are from 84 to 85 per hundred lbs. The National Democratic Committee have fixed upon April 2d, 1863, as the day for boiling the National Convention at Charleston.
