The Legion immediately encouraged the setting up of a Ne gro committee for the purpose of supporting their resolution. This committee, under the leadership of Dr. I. P. Davis included Rev. John R. Oulmer, and Atty. L. E. Thomas met with the city manager Wed nesday to discuss the problem of inter-racial affairs. For an hour and a half the committee discussed what Dr. Davis described as a "delicate situation." No statement concern ing the conviction of the committee was made; however,. Dr. Davis an nounced that the committee was preparing a statement to be releas ed after a cross-sectional opinion of Miami lcadersip has been obtained A special meeting of the leaders Os the organization will be held sometime after the Xmas vacation The Miami Times, however, learned Thursday that the statement is al most ready to be released and that it will support the American I region's stand by agreeing that Inter-racHM dances should be discouraged. The city was urged not to pass any laws prohibiting peaceful assemblies in terested in cultural and civic impro rnent. Wednesday as Coral Oables police surrounded a manufacturing plant and inter rupted a burglary. The gunfire followed a call from A. 11. Bliss, night watchman in the Pro-Tect-U Jalousie Corp.. <525 Pone de lieon blvd., that the building was being burglarized. by Police Chief W A. Kim brough, police covered the front and rear of the large building, then Kim brough and others entered, after Officer C. K. Ingeraoll had fired sev eral shots inside. The quartet had taken refuge in the paint room, 'which has a door opening to a side street. Officer R. F. Pogram was sta tioned outside this door. He quickly returned the fire, wounding a man in the wrist and knocking a pistol from his hand. As the man slammed , the door, Kimbrough and the others were en tering the paint room from the In vide door. They found that one of the bur glar# had escaped through a small window, and that another was at tempting to escape the same way. ‘ Officer R. C. Jacobs caught the man by one leg hut after a brief tugof-war he wriggled loose and fled. Meanwhile the other officers had cornered the wounded man Identified as Charles Hughes, 21, and his companion. Tynes, 7-year old grand son of Mrs. Nina Tynes of 7128 NW 17th ave., drowned Sunday after noon In the rock pit at NW 2Srd ave. and 72nd st.
