Negro Service Council Welcomes New Director The board of directors of the Ne gro Service Council gave a welcome reception Sunday in honor of the new director, Walter C. Pinkston. Dr. G. W. Hawkins served as mas ter of ceremonies and the Rev. Ed ward T. Graham, former director of the NSC, now pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist church, Introduced A. L. Reynolds, president of the Council. In presenting him Rev. Mr. Graham pointed out that “we are living in a changing world, along wdth the many and we must equip ourselves and be alert to meet the changes.’’ He emphasized that the president of the NSC has worked in Dade county as the public relation direc tor in firms and organizations for a number of years and has done a re markable job. J. E. Preston, chairman of the personnel committee of the Coun cil also spoke and he stated that he thought the NSC has done ex ceptionally well and that he felt it a difficult job for a new person to pick up the work of the council and carry on; but it was the feeling of the committee that the right per son had been chosen and that they had given it much study. Miami Avenue l things said in his behalf generally, and responding specifically to the presidents presentation remarks, Pinkston replied that he appreciat ed the fine reception held in his honor and the many fine things said about him. In his concluding remarks he eaid “There is a tre- SATURDAY, JANUARY 1, 194* mendous job to be done in Miami, but I can only do as much as you will allow and help me to do. I am here to work and I feel that I can do the job. Much of the success of the work of the Negro Senrioe Council will depend upon the people of Miami.
