Segregation Is “Old Account Settled Long Ago” Issue Equalized Education JACKSON, Miss. (ANP) The segregation issued is “an old ac count settled long ago," accord ing to W. Milan Davis, president of both the State Association of Teach ers in Negro schools and Oklahoma Industrial college, Oklahoma, here last week. Dr. Davis made this state ment in response to an address be fore the association by Oov. Field ing L. Wright. _ The governor had advocated "ade quate but separate" educational fa cilities and also warned of special interests outside the state that ajre attemplng to stir up cUssention be tween Negroes and Whites. In rebuttal, President Davis said, “Outside interference is no worse than Inside neglect. If you hate us because we are ignorant, then we will try to educate ourselves. If you hate us because we are black, then only God almighty can help us." He declared that the segregation issup was “an old account that was settled long ago” but stated he warned "Negro, children of Missis sippi to enjoy the same good things that the whites enjoy.” 1 say to you, Gov. Wright, we want you to appeal to the legisla ture to ‘Open the Door, Richard’ to equal facilities.” He also called for equal salaries for Negro teachers with equal train ing and experience. He pointed out that Negroes applied for entrance into white universities and colleges because there was no adequate in stitutions for Negroes on the grad uate and professional levels. Federal Judge Orders University Os Kentucky To Admit Negro “On Equal Rights” LEXINGTON, Ky. (ANP>—An oral ruling handed down by Federal Judge H. Church Ford here last Wednesday served to open the doors of the University of Kentucky graduate school to Negro students. The decision, pandod down in a suit filed by Lyman Johnson, Louisville school teacher who was refused ad mission to the institute to study for a degree of doctor of philosophy said that Negroes are entitled tQ en trance on the same basis as White students “until the state provides a graduate school for Negroes sub stantially equal to that of t he uni versity. FLORIDA PAGE TEN White “Miracle” Men Get Rich Off Jamaica’s Sick And Afflicted KINGSTON, Jamaica (ANP) The superstitious beliefs of native Jamaicans has been used for the past two months to line the pockets of two White men from Miami, who claimed to be “miracle healers." The so-called “faith healers” hold nightly meetings in a school hall here, where they boast that they cqn heal the sick and afflicted with “nuttin’ but the Word of God.” The tricksters are known as. Brother Tommy Osborn, 26, and Lawrence Iverson. They are aided in the work of fleecing their believers by Osborn’s wife, Daisie. *" More than 2,000 persons pack the building every night to either be. healed or see a miracle performed. As many more hang around outside. Hospital patients are brought* through city streets in carts by friends and relatives to be healed, as well as the blind, deaf and cripp led. Each night Sister Daisie opens the meeting with a quick-fire speech of “You’re gonna see miracles done tonight folks. Yessir. 'Just like you have read about ip tjie Bible. Only these will be better.” Next in line on the program, en velopes for offerings are handed olt, After singing a few songs, Brother Osborn addresses the group in a hypnotic voice. Then a line of sick form along one wall and Osborn un dertakes to drive the "foul demon" out of them, each Individually. But no miracle Is performed and no euros are made In the two-hour ses sions The crowd leaves only to re ' turn the next night hoping for a miracle to happen.
